What you do
To make the sign, cut three pieces of paper bag, and glue them together; use the photo as a guide. When you glue the pieces together, be sure and apply a thin layer of glue on the entire surface, (use a piece of cardboard as a squeegee to get a thin layer over the entire surface), lay one layer on top of the other, lay flat and allow to dry.

Draw a collar onto the brown paper bag and cut out. Using the photo as your guide, draw the head, neck, and body freehand onto the brown paper bag, cut two layers of this. This does not need to be perfect, in fact, the more imperfect, the more whimsical the craft appears.

Paint the bird before stuffing. You may choose your own colors and design, or use the guidelines below for the colors we recommend.

LINEN: Base the collar, shirt, and sign
VILLAGE GREEN: Basecoat the pants
SEDONA CLAY: Stencil 1/2" checks on the sign. Wash the stripes on the pants. Brighten the squares where stripes intersect. (NOTE: To wash mix 75% water-25% paint)
BAMBI BROWN: Basecoat the face, neck, and dowels for legs
RAW UMBER: Base coat the hat and the dowel for the brim. Apply the lettering. Wash the stripes on the pants
PUEBLO RED: Basecoat the waddle
ANTIQUE GOLD: Paint the buckle on the hat, and the beak

After painting, start with top of the bird, work your way down, gluing, and stuffing as you go, a little at a time, until you reach the bottom. Add the legs, using clothes pins to help secure them until dry. Leave a small area on each side, and in the middle of the legs unglued, so that you will be able to insert stuffing to fill out that area.

Finishing Touches

-- Glue the dowel on to the hat, the beak on the face, and the collar in place
-- Spray the entire project with sealer (Note: we used Krylon Matte Finish)
-- Thread the button with jute, and glue on to collar
-- Insert the wire on the sign, and tie a raffia bow on the side.
-- Attach a wire to the top of the hat to be able to hang him

HINT: Poke holes (for wire) with an ice pick large enough for wire to go through, and then apply glue to each side to reinforce.
