I have been invited to a baby shower next week, and I don't know what I can make for the baby. I can't sew, I can crochet a little... nothing fancy though.
I was thinking of making little homemade bath salts for the mom.. putting them in baby food jars, and decorating. I know she would like that I put time and effort into thinking about her, and making something just for her.
But if I'm going with the homemade theme for the mom, I want to make something cute and lasting for baby too. DH suggested I crochet a baby blanket, but I don't think I have enough time or material for this.
Any other suggestions would be appriciated. Thanks.
I read somewhere, where you buy a package of the cloth FOLDED diapers. You can sew all different kinds of trims, lace , ribbon etc. on them, and use them for burp cloths. The diapers are a tad expensive, but you will have them for future gifts. They make up darling, and the "Mommies" love them. Cafe
Your friend is so fortunate that you want to make something special for her and the baby. The bath salt sounds lovely. Another packaging idea would be little plastic bags (enough for 1 bath) filled and then tied with a pretty ribbon. As for the baby, since you can crochet, why not buy some inexpensive, plain receiving blankets and crochet a border on them. That would be a great way to share your talent -- and I think that would be a neat LOVE gift to give!
1 yard of 2 different pieces of fleece, that are color coordinated, or 2 yards cut in half, put together and cut along edges, making a fringe, tye together. Make a quick and easy baby quilt. My 20 yr old dd did the cutting and my mom made a quilt like this for my sister's first grandbaby. I don't know if it is anywhere else, but this can get a tad expensive, we pay about $8 to $10 per yard.
Also why not start a scrapbook for the baby and mom to be. Buy a book, and do up a couple of pages (without the pictures).
If you can crochet, do a border around a matching bib and face washer to make a set, that's nice.
Also 2 face washers crocheted together with a little fibre fill (pillow stuffing(?)) to make a fairly flattish pillow for propping baby when a little older.
I love the idea of the burp cloths.
As you are in summer maybe a lighter blanket or sheet, with some nice trim or even bassinette or cot sheets (crib(?))
It's been a while I'm afraid, but it's all I can think of at the moment.
You will have to tell us what you decide on
I have made the folded cloth diaper burp cloths and have sewn bright colored rick-rack on the bottom about 3/4 the way down the burp cloth (holding long way) and then I have sponge stamped cute designs with fabric paint. They have come out really cute. I tie a bright grosgrain ribbon around them (I usually put 3 in a packet) and make a gift tag. My friends have loved them and still used the cloths after their kids were done with bottles.
My sister made a really cute gift for a cousins baby shower. She bought disposable diapers, rolled each one up and tied it with a ribbon (could be pink ribbon for a girl, and blue for boy, or yellow if you don't know). She arranged the diapers to look like a 3 tiered wedding cake, she then decorated this with several little gifts like nail clippers, pacifier, baby comb, teething toys. In the middle of the cake, where no one could see, she put bottles of baby shampoo, soaps, powder, and then topped off the diaper cake with a baby bottle. She wrapped it up with clear plastic, and tied a big bow on it. It was really a big hit at the shower.
This time, the theme is going to be autumn/Halloween so your stories need to use smilies to express as many words as possible and your story should be focused on anything that has to do with autumn or Halloween.
