Book discussion group

Would anyone be interested in having a book discussion group? Everyone could read the same book and use this thread to discuss the book. I am wondering if there would be any interest in this idea and then we could work out the details from there. Let me know what you think?

Joy, I wouldn't object to that idea! It sounds like a lot of fun.

There would be some details to work out, such as:
Who chooses the book? (Perhaps we could sign up for that privilege, and just go down the list)
How long should we allow for "reading" the book before we discuss?
Would the person who chose the book be responsible for leading the discussion?

I have never participated in a Book Club before, so I don't know what a reasonable amount of time would be to allow for reading the book. Has anyone had experience in this area?

Barb, I agree there are details to be worked out. I think I can get some information on other book discussion groups at the library I work at. I will let you know what I find out.
I am really interested to see how many people would actually like to participate.

Sign me up. If I can get the book, I'll happily join in. Barbszy, I think having different people choose the books would be a good idea.

Barb, Ellen, & Meg--glad you are all interested. I did a little research and found some good websites that gave tips for starting a group, books to read and discuss and even discussion guides for questions. I will post these sites at the end so you can all check them out. I think since this will be our group we need to decide the ground rules together. We definitely need to included all of us in picking what to read. Maybe to get started we could vote on a few suggestions and then keep a list so everyone could have a turn at choosing a book? Will anyone have a problem getting a copy of the book? How long should we take to read the book may depend on what we chose, some books just take longer than others. Most of the wesite I search suggested a month, which seems a little long to me since this is online and not a monthly get together thing.

My tastes in reading are generalist so I will go with whatever sounds good to others.

I would absolutely love to join a book discussion group. I think it is a fantastic idea! I read all kinds of books on all kinds of subjects from history, to sociology to lots of fun fiction so keep me posted if this becomes a reality cause I think it would be a lot of fun and is a great idea.

I'd be interested in joining also. I think the reason they give a month to read the book is because not everyone reads as fast. Or has the time to read with their jobs taking up many hours. I am not picky when it comes to reading books, I'll read anything.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to read? I think we should try to pick something by the end of the week so we can start discussing by the end of October.
