Urban Homesteading

I had to share this website...
http://www.pathtofreedom.com/

This website is wonderful in how to take control of your own food for your own family. They're promoting bringing back the victory garden except for you and your family called a Freedom Garden. It promotes growing natural food for your family in your own backyard or patio. Its just one family and how they do it all etc.

I used to do most of what they're doing in my 20's, which made me an outcast amongst my peers-

I made my own soap since I have severe allergies to perfume, I canned and grew a small garden. Now, I am growing three gardens and I have chickens. I compost and I am going to can our food and freeze the rest and maybe next year I will expand to have even more. I am going to create a cold-frame too so we can grow food in the winter as well.

I think the more people start doing this, going back to the way people use too, the more we'll feel in control and won't rely on the economy's up and down swings on how we feed our families.

Very true leahsmom.I think you are wise and it takes alot to be able to do all the work involved with it too.
We all need to feed our families and we all do the best that we can.

Right, its about being self-sufficient and doing what you can in the way that you can. This year is the first year that I really feel in control of our food supply. Its a little scary too because you are dependent upong the weather etc. but it is worth it and I haven't even gotten my first veggie ripened yet but I hope to continue to do this wherever we live.

I've been pretty busy with my garden producing, with canning and with our urban chickens...we thought we were going to have all hens but we only have one hen with the rest about to bless us and a few other peoples freezer's.But I've been planting more of the fall/winter veggies which is good because even though its August, the last few days have felt like fall.

Thanks...yeah been busy trying to figure out my chickens sex and just working on the garden...I read that I was 'missing' on here and was surprised-lol. I have been canning and trying to be more self-sufficient. I hope you'll continue to read the blog, I've been updating it daily...and forgetting to get on the other forums I'm on but it's listed on my blog-lol. I'll check in more often.

Urban homesteading sounds an interesting subject
I guess I do bits and pieces or as much as I'm allowed in my area
