Military Family Question

Can anyone tell me what the cost of mailing a regular sized letter from the United States to a serviceman in Iraq would be? The kid next door to us is going in the Army in a couple of weeks and the recruiting officer told him he thought it was $8.00. I had a pen pal in the Army in Germany in the early 80's and it was only the cost of a regular stamp back then... my dh said maybe it's different because it's a war zone? Thanks everyone.

Anna, when we have mailed regular letters to APO or FPO addresses, the rate was the same as domestic mail.
Packages cost more, though.

Big DS's Boy Scout troop has "adopted" a soldier and they send coffee and phone cards in packages to him periodically.

Thanks Barbzy

His mom is very poor and a $8.00 letter sent often would be a financial hardship for her and I just couldn't see how it would cost that much... I told him if that was the case all us neighbors would group together our letters and send it in one envelope with his mom's and of course share the cost of postage.

He is so excited about going and I have promised him lots of candles and soap ( he uses my cool waters glycerin soap as he is allergic to most store soaps).

Oh that is really cool about your sons troop.. I have posted a request for information on that in the Girl Scout troops for a friend's grand daughter here at work.
