Do you have a best friend from childhood? Are you still friends...for those of you who maybe still live in the same place? Or have you maintained a long distance friendship?
What are your favorite memories of your childhood friend?
Trainlady
My best friend from my childhood is Lesley. We knew each other since we were about 8. We did everything together and her family became mine. I didn't have the best of childhoods but her family always accepted me as one of theirs.
Lesley and I were not alike, I was the shy one then, and pretty quiet. Lesley was more outgoing and in no way would she be mistaken for "the quiet one." We butted heads with many issues including guys but it never seemed to matter how different we were. We still loved each other.
We both joined the military, her the Army, me the Air Force and after graduation we went in opposite directions but did not lose contact with each other. We got married around the same time and our first children were boys born the same year. The last time I saw her was when our sons were a few months old.
Our contact became sparse after that until it stopped. Then a few weeks ago I get a message from her through Classmates.com. I was thrilled! We've been talking daily since then. It is amazing how much alike we are. Oh, she still thinks differently than I do in some respects but in many others we are the same. It was like we were never apart...like we had been infuencing each other this whole time.
It is wonderful to have her back in my life. I can't wait to have my kids meet hers. Our sons are 12, her daughter is 8, mine is 9.
Back when we were kids things were a bit different. We would take off and go exploring. There were woods a few blocks from where we lived so we explored them. We could be gone for a few hours and our parents never had to worry. There is no way today that I would let my kids do something like that. Our world is not so "kid friendly."
We played Barbies in her front yard, played dress up in her basement, spied on guys that we liked, and picked on our younger siblings.
Things were good when I was with her and today it is even better with her in my life again.
DESCRIBE YOUR BEST FRIEND FROM WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD.
My best friends were Go-Go and Lorie and the days were in the 1960s.
We had such fun times back in those days when it was safe to just play outside..and we did!!
Barbies, Easy Bake Ovens, Snow Cone Machines, Koolaid stands, Archie Comic books, swimming in Go-Gos doughboy, riding our bikes to the library, (and not having to lock them) twirling batons, doing gymnastics on the grass, sleepovers and my favorite, trick or treating!!!
Lorie and I are still friends to this day tho many moves have separated us geographically.
Go-Go, where are you??!!
Peace,train
Train, it is funny (or is it?) that one of your childhood friends was named Lorie. So was mine and that was even how she spelled her name. I've often wondered what became of her. We were young and one day she just moved from the neighborhood.
Another good friend was actually a pen pal whose name was Tracy. We wrote each other through high school almost and then went our separate ways. I've often wondered where she was too.
Hi Julie, yes, it is Lorie spelled with an ie...you don't see it spelled that way very often! My dear friend Lorie is a feisty redhead!!!
And do you know what, I too, had a penpal nemed Tracey!!!!Unfortunately we lost contact many years ago.
Nope, Her name is Lorie G., but not a color!!!
Just the fact that we both had red head childhood friends named Lorie is coincidental enough!!! Wow!!!

My childhood friend dating all the way back to 2nd grade came and visited me last week!! It was so very wonderful to see her!!
It always seems, when we visit, that we were just together the day before! In reality, it had been a couple years!!
Has anyone ever tried the Classmates websight for finding old school friends? Had any luck?
