This is very easy for all of you painters out there.
I buy Pure & Natural Soap bars from the local dollar store. It has the debossed writing on one side leaving the back side flat. This becomes the top now.
Lay soap out 2 - 3 days to dry out a little.
Take a cotton swap of rubbing alcohol and lightly wipe down the flat surface of soap bar.
Let dry for a few minutes.
Paint several thin coats of ModgePodge (gloss or matte) across soap (just on the top side of bar - do not modgepodge sides or bottom). Let dry in between coats. Application is thick and milky. Will dry clear. Let last coat dry for several hours.
Paint with acrylic paints! Any design you want.
When paint is completely dry! ModgePodge a thin coat (glossy) to set the painting. After dry, it is recommended that you paint a very thick coat over it so brush stokes do not show. Many just glob it on and smooth it out to the edges. It will take up to an hour or two to dry clear.
Let it set up over night to cure. Make sure the room is dry.
Variation:
Prepare soap same way ...paint up several thin coats of ModgePodge. When dry, paint up a thicker coat and decoupage a printout, picture, etc... that's been cut to size. Lay on top of wet modgepodge quickly, making sure it is centered. Paint another coat of Modge Podge on top of paper making sure you get a real good application to seal down any loosed edges. After dry, paint on thick coat and let dry over night. If you make a mistake, and modgepodge doesn't dry evenly, you can lightly wetsand surface to flatten and then paint another coat over it.
These soaps can be used! The painted or decoupaged top will not slip off! Soap will be dissolved from the bottom up.
For those of who scrapbook online or belong to an online scrapbook/graphic club, your possibilities for decoupage or even painting is endless. You may want to spray Krylon sealer over decoupaged image before applying modgepodge on top just to set the ink printer from running.
Email me if you have questions on this.
Have fun!

What a clever idea Cynthia! Hi there, I made my way back to family corner, and I'm happy to be back on here. Do you have any pictures of painted soap? I'm curious, and would love to try these. Thanks for sharing, how's the crafting going? Probably pretty slow right now, with your move coming up, hey? Good luck, and we'll talk to you soon.
Hi Dawn, as soon as my friend downloads from her camera I can post some pics of the soaps. They didn't sell well at my last show but I put them up in a little restaurant and they're gone and wanting more! They are so easy and fun to do! Try it - you'll like it. With all your cute patterns and creative artistic ability, you can paint up some darling ones. Have you posted your website here so people can see your painted items? love, cyn
