What are your favorite books to read during the Christmas holidays?

I'm looking for ideas on books to add to our Christmas reading basket. We like all of the classics but I would like to hear about some of the "not so popular" books that you like.

They don't just have to deal with Christmas, either! If you have a favorite for winter, snow or whatever...let me know!

Thanks!!

The Polar Express is one of our family's favorites. I still bring it out every Christmas and put it on our piano. DD's always pick it up and read it.

I have another book that is two stories by Truman Capote. I can't remember the exact names. I think one is called Thanksgiving Visitor or something like that. I have it packed away with our Christmas decorations so I can't check the name right now. It is an autobiographical story of Truman growing up with distant relatives. He is very close to an aunt(?) who seems to be mentally disabled. Every year as soon as the weather gets cold, she proclaims it "fruitcake weather" and they set about gathering up the ingredients and baking fruitcakes. It is just a very heartwarming story and I read it every year.

The only think I can think of right now is Olive the Other Reindeer . Most of my Christmas books are under the couch. Maybe I'll get them out soon.

Thanks, ladies!

We've watched the Polar Express movie at least twice a year since we got it.

Kathy, if you come across the title of that book, I would love to look for it.

I'm also going to look for Oliver. I bet my DD would love that story.

I promised them that we'd go to the library tomorrow to fill our basket.

Books a Million has some pretty nice Christmas books on sale from $5.00 and under. We spent about an hour in there last night looking around.

Tami, the book contains 3 short stories by Truman Capote - "A Christmas Memory", "One Christmas" and "The Thanksgiving Visitor". I know that our library has several copies of it. They have it on display.
