Ideas for homemade Advent calendars?

Do you have new ideas for or have you successfully made an Advent calendar?

I'm looking for cheap and easy ideas from making one for this year.

I love Advent Calendars and have made more than a dozen to give away, and several different ones for myself. {Edited by ajrsmom to remove link. You will need to get the approval of the FC webmaster in order to be able to post the link to your direct website.}

Some of the easiest to make are paper chains of red, white and green links of paper. You can make a face of santa or a christmas tree. Cut a place across the beard or at the bottom of the tree to slide the first link of paper through. And then add however many links you need for the days that are left before the day you want to celebrate on. Then each day the kids can tear off a link.

Another idea would be to make a paper tree and have spaces marked for each day and have the kids color or make special paper decorations to glue onto the tree. Or get christmas stickers and have them put only one on the tree for each day .

Hope these give you some ideas.

Vicky

Yes I made mine about 10yrs ago and it's still in use.
Made a long tube of fabric and turned inside out measured and made pockets (strips then sewn on 3 side the divided t make the pockets) then turned over the tops and
bottom to make a pocket to thread through a rod to hang. Hope that made some sense.
Nice sturdy christmas fabric, actually this will be the first christmas that it needs for 1 child.

I am working on one.

Took a piece of plywood, painted it creamy white, dry brushed a tan then a dark brown on it. Next I will place rows of nails or hooks to hang ornaments on.

Forgot to ad, use a circut or a scrapbook program for numbers, pictures and tags. I don't have ours done.

I only used a fat black fabric marker for my numbers, the main fabric was patterned,
the pockets were plain red so that black stood out, no sewing or gluing that way and just added a few extra stars to jazz up thos numbers.
I wouldn't use my cricut for fabric, though I know some people do.

Bilby, my calendar is made from wood. I am using paper to embellish it.
