BD present ideas for a 12 yr. old boy from a friend?

My son was invited to a super cool spy agent birthday party by one of his friends/classmates. He wants to buy him a cool present yet he has no idea what that might be.

Any ideas out there for a 12 yr. old boy?

I'm stuck on this one. If we can't think of anything, he's going to get a gift certificate from somewhere.

My son was going to ask two other friends what they were getting him ...hopefully he'll come home with an idea but he'll probably forget about it.

That's why I'm asking here.

Help!

If he has an ipod, why not an itunes gift card? You can get them in Target.

Gift certificate to a video-game store is usually popular with boys this age.

Nerf has some night-vision dart guns out that look a lot of fun. My 17-year-old would want one if he saw it! LOL!

How about a chess set or a box of family type games.

If he's in Cub Scouts; maybe something scout related. Like a water bottle with a first aid kit inside or a flashlight. A mess kit for camping. He's at the age for joining a Boy Scout troop. Maybe he could use a flat compass. They sell them at Walmart cheap under $7.00.

Hope this has given you some ideas.

I'm guessing that your son is hoping to keep with the theme of the party. If you have the classmates parents phone number, call and find out what the parents allow the son to play with (some parents don't believe in toy spy guns, etc). If you don't have their number go with your gut feelings about what you know your son would like "if" it were his Spy party and then put in a reasonable price tag to fit your budget. One of the children I use to private care for at this age (he's 17 now) liked Harry Potter - so for his birthday I bought him a Harry Potter book (that I knew he did not have yet) and put the rest of my budget amount on a gift card for that store. As Barbszy pointed out "Nerf has some night-vision dart guns out that look a lot of fun. My 17-year-old would want one if he saw it!"
So, if the party is not tonight, take your son out shopping and see what he thinks is reasonably cool to buy for himself and ask if he would rather give it to the friend instead (or wait until his birthday to get it "if" he is still interested by then).
