1 pkg. yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp.)
1/4 c. warm (baby bottle) water
1/4 c. butter, melted
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. warm milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
3 c. flour (I like 1/2 white, 1/2 wheat)
Preheat oven to 350*.
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand 5 minutes. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine butter, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, stirring until dissolved, cool. Add yeast, egg and about 1/3 to 1/2 of flour. Mix well, stir in remaining flour to make dough. Knead 8-10 minutes, addding flour as needed (usually ya don't). Divide dough into 3rds and braid. Place on greasted sheet. Pinch ends together at each end. Cover and let rise in a warm place 1 hour or until doubled. Bake at 350* for 20-30 minutes. You can also make it in a loaf, just don't braid it. |
