Here's a fun Father's Day present! If that special Dad in your life is in the automotive service industry, he'll love this easy to make pencil holder.

craft or popsicle sticks, enough to go around the can
white craft glue (Tacky glue)
2 woodsie signs
4 woodsie circles

What you do

Generously apply white craft glue up and down the sides of the vegetable can, placing craft sticks in place as you go. (Hint: line the first stick up with the seam in the back of the can) Keep gluing sticks in place until entire can is covered.

Place a nickel sized amount of red paint and black on a paper plate, thin the paint with a couple of drops of water. Dip the bristle tips of a toothbrush into the red paint. Test your splattering ability on a piece of scrap paper before doing this on your can. Hold toothbrush horizontally and drag your finger across the bristles, causing the paint to splatter spots wherever you aim it. When you are comfortable with this method, go ahead and splatter some red paint onto the craft sticks, all the way around the can. Repeat with the black paint. Set aside to dry.

Paint the centers of the 4 woodsie circles with gray paint. Paint tires on with black paint, going over the gray leaving a hub cap in the center. While that dries, paint the 2 woodsie signs with white paint. (Note: shading is optional, especially if children are doing this craft) Shade the edges of the white signs lightly with gray paint. Use the gray and white paint to highlight the tires, use simple little brush lines around one side of each circle and around one side of the hub cap (see photo).

Use red craft pen to write the name of Dad's company or business on one sign, and write Dad's first and last name on the second sign. If Dad is the bossman, an option phrase such as "Da Boss" or "President" or "Manager" can be added. Use the black craft pen to add a little hand drawn car and wrench to the company name sign.

Use the photo as a guide to glue 2 of the wheels at the top of the can and the signs and other two wheels to the front of the can. Because of the excess amount of glue used to hold the craft sticks on, place the can on a plate and allow to dry overnight. Most likely there will be some glue that will leak out of the bottom as it dries. Simply remove that the following morning and you are all set.
