  • 6 Ways to Protect Your Latchkey Kids - As a parent, you don't choose to have your kids at home alone, but sometimes the pressures of two parents working, school schedules, and baby sitting problems require you to do so. There are some very easy things you can do to reduce the risk for your kids. Every parent can implement these tips to keep their family safer.
  • Avoid Shopping Dangers - Snowy and rainy days make it a good time to stroll the malls and enjoy all they offer.   • Baby-sitter Safety Tips - 'Tis the season parents need their baby-sitters. Whether it is the busy season at work, holiday shopping or parties, they rely on their baby-sitters to keep their children safe. Whenever it involves the safety of our children, reminders are always helpful.
  • Back to School Bicycle Safety Tips - It's time to head back to school, and kids will be donning their backpacks and hopping onto their bicycles. Be sure to go over this checklist with your kids to get them off to school safely.
  • Bathtub Safety - Do you remember giving your infant the bath in the sink? Are you now giving baths in the bathtub?
  • Car Safety for Children - Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in children in the United States. This horrible statistic is made worse when we discover that 75% of child fatalities and 50% of child injuries could be eliminated with the consistent and correct use of child safety seats and safety belts.
  • Car Seat Baby Sitter - In June 1996, a 3-month-old girl died after her mother forgot she was in the back of a car for more than half a day.
  • Dog Bites: Prevention is Key - Summer is the time when most dog bites occur, and children under age 15 are the most likely victims. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 400,000 children each year seek medical attention for dog bites. In recognition of National Dog Bite Prevention Week, May 21-27, promoted by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the U.S. Postal Service and the CDC, American Humane urges parents and dog owners to learn how they can help keep their neighborhood children safe.
  • Enjoy Fireworks Safely - People everywhere are fascinated by fireworks -- by the mystery and splendor that light the night sky or turn a backyard into a festival of light and sound. Like nothing else, fireworks can excite, thrill and amaze us. But as dazzling as fireworks can be, they can also be harmful if used improperly.
  • First Aid Kits: Stocking the Essentials - As a mom of three active children, I keep first-aid supplies in my home, car and purse. Everyone's needs will differ, but here are some basics that no first-aid kit should lack. Don't let the length of the lists scare you off. Most of these things are not large and can be kept in a rather small space.
