Accessorize With Framed Photos- Matt and I have decorated hundreds of rooms and have found that it is the accessories, or the stuff, as Matt calls them, which put the finishing touches on a room.
Accessories add personality to a room, helping to make the room a reflection of its owner. Matt and I have found that photographs are the perfect accessory to create that personal touch.
Bathroom Corner Cupboard- Shari and I have decorated numerous bathrooms, and all of them share one common problem - not enough storage. Typically, the only places to store items are the medicine cabinet and under the vanity, neither of which offers much space.
Decorating Bedrooms- I have two boys in my life who each want a hard bedroom to
decorate. My son wants to incorporate his love for chess in to the
bedroom. My husband wants me to decorate our bedroom for his
other love, the OSU cowboys, their colors are back and orange. How
do I do this.? Help!
Decorating Organizational Tips- Nothing is more frustrating, that to be out shopping, when you spot a picture, bedspread, or accessory that you love but are not sure if it will match in your home. Here is a tip that may help you shop more effectively:
Make a Window Valance to Welcome Spring- Since I love to throw open the windows to feel fresh spring breezes, I think spring is the perfect time to change out heavy curtains and draperies for simple window toppers. Over the years I've discovered many toppers that, while simple to create, can add color and interest to your decor.
Make an Antique Bench of Your Own- I love to browse through antique shops. Because I enjoy building things myself, I especially enjoy looking at the handmade wooden furniture. I admire the workmanship and history in each piece, and often come away with the inspiration for a project of my own.
Making A Mantle the Focal Point of a Room- Mantles don't have to be fancy to become a focal point. In fact, simple mantles work well with most decorating schemes. With appropriate accessories, a simple mantle can complement contemporary, Victorian, or country decor.
Mom I Want - Decorating a Teen's Room- "Mom, I want a waterbed, with a black leather frame, black spread, and posters everywhere!"
Okay -- it’s time for Anna’s room. She’s our teenager who wants a waterbed with a black leather frame, black bedspread and her posters everywhere.
Mommy I Want - Decorating a Boy's Room- "Mommy, I want green walls, red furniture, blue carpet and all my trucks lined up along the walls!"
Let’s address the second scenario... Adam is a three to seven year old boy who wants green walls, red furniture, and blue rugs with his trucks on parade.
Mommy I Want - Decorating a Girl's Room- "Mommy, I want a pink rug, purple walls and Barbie dolls everywhere!"
Can you relate to these decorating dilemmas? I’m sure many of you can; it’s a common situation for most of us.
One Room Apartment to Tuscan Villa- Making your one room apartment into a Tuscan villa can stretch the limits of your imagination. Tuscan villa, French chateau, English cottage or Santa Fe adobe-whatever your dream decor may be, there are basic rules of design that will help.
Rooms to Grow On- Decorating your children's rooms in a design that won't quickly be outgrown can be a challenge. A child's room is a very important place in their life, and as they grow their tastes, hobbies, attitudes, and ideas about things will certainly change. The goal is to create a room that reflects your child's growth and personality throughout the years, without breaking the piggybank each time they have a new whim.
Window Treatment Dilemmas- I have a problem that I have been trying to figure out what
to do with a kitchen window. The problem is that the house
is terribly old and the window is a new double pane slider window.
