With school just around the corner, here are a few ideas to help your child develop great study habits:ORGANIZATION Teach your kids how to organize a 'to do' list. List what is to be done each night. Teach them to use a study calendar to plan ahead also. PLACE OF MY OWN Set aside a place for your child to complete her homework each day - a place with appropriate lighting and free from distractions. If the kitchen table is the best place, create a box to set beside the table with all of the supplies that might be required each day (i.e. pencils, pens, dictionaries, rulers, etc.) THE RIGHT TIME Decide what time homework begins. Right after school? After supper? Establish a regular daily time. Establishing the 'same time' habit will possibly eliminate those potential late nights. I'M HUNGRY Make sure your child has had a healthy snack or supper before they begin. Eating while doing homework can cause distractions and even worse - spills! HELP FROM YOU Spend some of the homework time helping and encouraging your child. It isn't necessary to complete their assignments for them or 'give' them the answers, but taking a general interest in their daily work and encouraging them to do their best lets them know how much you care about them. |
