Freezing Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

Tip: Starting with a frozen loaf of bread makes this task much easier, but it can also be done with fresh bread.

Freezing PB & J Sandwiches

1 loaf of bread (see tip above)
peanut butter
jelly
sandwich bags
bread loaf bag


1. Remove all bread from the loaf bag. Set aside the ends for another use (bread crumbs in your meatloaf, etc).

2. Separate slices of loaf into pairs.

3. Spread a layer of peanut butter on one slice and a thin layer of peanut butter on the other slice. This is key, it keeps the jelly from seeping through the bread!

4. Spread jelly over the top of the thin layer of peanut butter.

5. Put sandwich together and place inside a sandwich bag.

6. Repeat these steps for all slices of bread.

7. Open bread bag and place all bagged sandwiches back inside and twist shut with tie.

8. Place loaf in freezer and remove a sandwich each time you need one and place in lunch box or bag. The sandwich will thaw out perfectly by lunchtime and NO it will not be soggy!

Editor's Note: I have been freezing PB&J sandwiches for years. My kids like them, I guarantee they won't be soggy, and they thaw out in time for lunch break. Try one yourself. Make one sandwich, freeze it, then thaw it. Now eat it.

Note on allergies: For those of you with kids that are allergic to peanut butter, never fear! Lunch meat freezes great as well. Mayonnaise DOES NOT freeze well, so skip the mayo, go with mustard or margarine.
