Obvious Letters: The Associative Alphabet Every Child Will Remember

Recently, I had the pleasure of perusing this marvelously obvious way to help children learn about the letters of the alphabet. In this book, you won’t find the everyday picture of a ball with the letter “b” underneath. Instead, you will find a backpack in the shape of the letter “b”! A caterpillar forms the letter “c” and a digger is formed with the capital letter “D”. The idea here is to combine recognition of an object with the sound of the letter that it begins with. This gives the child an object to associate the letter with in an easy to remember form. For further learning fun, adults can photocopy the pages so that the letters can be colored in. Children of preschool age and up will find this book fun and easy to follow with its large black and white pictures and colored letters. The letters seem to hop off the page making it even easier for young eyes to focus on the object and its sound. The fact that all of the letters in this book are shaped in to an object that a child can recognize, makes it an invaluable learning tool, even for the very young. This is a wonderful book for parents, educators, homeschoolers, or just for some fun bed time reading.
