Helpful Stands for Your Smart Phones and Tablets

February 12th, 2013 posted by Amanda Formaro

In this day and age just about everyone has either a smart phone or a tablet, and many people have both. Technology has made many things easier and faster, including searching out and using recipes in the kitchen. Companies are wise to this evolution and have been busy developing products to aid those who wish to go paperless while cooking. It’s actually a common thing in my kitchen, and I cook and bake quite a bit. Whether it’s my iPhone or my Kindle, and soon to be iPad, technology is no stranger to my kitchen counters. I often pull up recipes and use my screen instead of a print out. There are plenty of products on the market, I’ve been busy testing a few and wanted to tell you about some of my favorites. it’s no secret to my family that I can be a messy cook. Whether it’s crumbs from slicing bread or sauce jumping out of a bubbling saucepan, there are plenty of messes to be had. It’s important to protect your technology from damaging liquids and other messy spills.

The Wedge™

Fingerprints all over your phone are annoying. Sitting right next to me on my desk is The Wedge, and on it, my iPhone. I love it. It’s soft, lightweight, and even fashionable. The Wedge comes in a variety of colorful designs and makes the perfect holder for your phone. It’s functional too! Turn The Wedge over and you’ll find a dual-sided microfiber finish, which features an antimicrobial coating to also protect the wedge from grime. Use the bottom side to polish up your screen and remove those annoying fingerprints, and the other side to rest your phone on for watching videos, listening to music, or viewing recipes. It’s soft design makes it great for travel too. Fits perfectly into your purse or briefcase and fits in the palm of your hand. The Wedge is available from Toddy Gear for $14.99

I watch Netflix on my Kindle regularly. Holding it up for long periods of time proves to be uncomfortable and a strain on your wrist. Luckily I came across the TabletTail which has a two-part grip and positioning system making it a combination handle and stand. This keeps your hands free while your device sits at a comfortable viewing angle. It’s easily adjusted too, so no matter where you are sitting you can see it perfectly. The “tail” also acts as a handle to carry your device without touching it with messy, sticky hands, making it ideal for the kitchen. This stand is sturdy, lightweight and easily repositioned, making me wonder how I got along without it before! The TabletTail holds the position steadily, without fear of your device falling over. Beyond stability, the WhaleTail also lends itself to hanging, wrapping and propping up the iPad in a variety of ways, like on the counter, attached to a cabinet, and even a simple one-handed grip.

Watch the video below to see a demonstration:

The TabletTail from Octa retails for $49.95 and its future-proof construction will work with older and upcoming versions of the iPad, Kindle and other devices.

Bamboo iPad Cooking Stand

Remember when I mentioned that sauce that bubbles out of the saucepan? Well imagine a splashguard for your tablet. This easel for your tablet is made of 100% eco-friendly bamboo and can accommodate all tablet style devices. It holds your device in the perfect position for viewing and has protective plastic shield that flips down to keep messy drips and blips from hitting the screen. The protective covering even allows you to tap, type and swipe right through it, without directly touching the screen. This handy bamboo stand is available from for $29.99 So when you’re thinking of holiday or birthday gifts, whether they cook or not, these three options are ideal for the technology driven world we live in.
