There are plenty of reasons why you might find yourself looking for a set of napkin rings. Mother’s Day and Easter immediately come to mind, but there are other occasions as well, such as a spring tea party, baby shower, or bridal shower. Perhaps Great Grandma’s birthday is coming up and you need that little something extra to dress up the table.

These pretty napkin rings started as plain wooden beads and are combined with a vine-covered wire available in the floral department of your local craft store. You can customize them however you like, using your favorite colors and patterns. Keep them plain if you prefer, or decorate them as I have, and you’ll enjoy them for years to come.

You will need craft paint, wooden beads, vine wrapped wire, gloss glaze and some pony beads.

The first step is to paint the wooden beads. After they are dry, you can decorate them however you like. I chose to add polka dots using a toothpick, and made swirls and stars with a paint pen. If you have any foam core board or a piece of floral foam, poking a toothpick through the bead and into the foam is a great way to keep them from rolling around and messing up your paint job.

When they are dry, use that same toothpick through the bead to balance them on a cardboard tube as shown here. Add the gloss glaze and let them dry completely. Meanwhile, cut the wire into 4-inch lengths and thread it through the bead once it is dry. Lastly, hot glue pony beads to the ends of the wire for a finishing touch.
