Question Fiberous cysts

I went for my yearly exam and was having breast pain, upon doing a breast exam my doctor felt dense tissue. I have to go Dec.4th for my very 1st mammogram/breast sonogram. He feels it's nothing more than fiberous cysts but wants to be sure. Does anyone have this condition? He told me it's common in women that drink alot of caffeine. He said if that's the case limiting my caffeine may/may not help. He said every woman is different. He didn't feel any lumps but said these cysts can sometimes grow and need removed. If anyone has any experiences with this please share them with me, Thank You.

Hi Tara I have fibrocystic disease of the breast too. I don't drink a lot of caffine though. I go for a mamogram every 2 years for now until I am older or think there is a problem. So far they have all come back fine. I would never be able to find a lump with all the regular lumpiness in my breast tissue. I too get pain in my breast tissue. The momagram was fine...it only hurts for a second...4 to be exact and if you have a good tech there should be no worries. I also had ultra sounds along with the mamogram which were totally painless. I also have leakage from my nipples and I have to have that checked regularily. The hardest is the mamogram part as they only do the nipples and squish them to a pancake....but I survive everytime I get it done.LOL Hope everything comes back fine

Thanks for the info. Debbie. I'm glad I will have someone I can talk to that knows what I'm talking about. It's relieving to hear that the mammogram isn't that bad, I've heard horror stories. Although squishing to a pancake doesn't sound to appealing, lol. I hear a big "Ouch" already! I will let you know what I find out when I get all my results. Thanks Debbie.

Tara it does pinch and hurt some but it is over so quickly that most can deal with it. I have only had one that was not the greatest and they bruised my one breast by trying to get too much tissue on the plate......I know they want to get as much as possible so they don't miss anything but it did pinch. After having a child I did mine with no pain meds, I found the mamogram was a breeze...LOL

Debbie,
My appt. is Dec. 4th @ 10:30. How long can I expect to be at the hospital to have all this done? Should I take Tylenol before I go?

The mamogram should only tak about 15 minutes...they will ask you to strip from the waist above then give you a gown...once they have taken the pictures they will usually ask you to wait in the waiting room to till they see if the pictures are good. The ultrasound takes a little longer depending on what they see etc.....I am not sure how things in the states are done compared to here in Canada......I think the first time I went and had both done it was about 1 1/2 hours but that was with wait times etc.the procedures themselves were only about 30-40 minutes of that time. I have never taken tylenol before I went...maybe ask the clinic if it is okay

Hope all goes well on tuesday.

tara k ....Deb has done a good job explaining everything. I have been going every year to check everything. I did take an alleve before I had it done. They do recommend it to make you feel better. My chest felt alright but my arm started hurting afterwards from raising and twisting it sideways.
Just had it done on Nov 16. The cysts were unchanged still small. They did find some new calcalcification. Will go back on Dec 11.
Started taking pomogranate again last time it helped shrink the cysts. Limiting caffein does help too.
I am sure you will be alright since most of it is from hormones in your body at certain times of the month. Getting screened is always important.

Hi ladies. Well it's done. I went for my appt. yesterday and I had my mammogram. It didn't hurt the 1st time she did it but then the doctor wanted more pictures so she had to do it again. The 2nd time it hurt like heck, she squeezed that machine down on me harder. I guess to get clearer pictures. I even took Tylenol with codeine before I went. The lady doing my mammogram wasn't very friendly either.

Then I went for my breast sonogram. That was a breeze, didn't hurt a bit. The lady doing that was very nice too. That always helps.

The doctor said I do have the fibercystic disease. He saw some lumps but thinks [ is pretty sure they are lymph nodes] but said I need to have another mammogram done in 6 months [ June ] to be sure. This was my 1st one so they have nothing to compare it to. This is what the doctor that read my results said.

Today, I got a call from my gyno's office and they set me up with an appt. to see a surgeon on Dec.11th @11. They said I have alot of dense tissue, lumpiness, cysts, lumps. They said nothing to worry about but they do this with all their patients. They said 6 mos. is too long to wait if there would be something going on. They said the surgeon will look at my films and either tell me "Yes" everything looks ok and I'm ok to wait the 6mos. for my next mammogram or if he feels something doesn't look right then he will schedule me to have a biopsy done. They tell you not to worry but either way now I'm nervous.Alot of times they still want to remove a cyst and the thought of having that done makes me feel weird. I will keep you posted after my appt.Any thoughts or feelings on this?

Tara I had a mamogram, my first 2yrs ago and I didn't find the squashing so bad as the stretching of the skin to close those suckers of pads for the squishing LOL
As you say it is quick and it's over and done, glad you at least know what's going on, I think the "not knowing" is the worst.
Good luck for further tests.
