No smoking ban

Our state has just issued a no smoking ban in all public facilities. One is still able to smoke in the 21 and over places but anywhere that a family with children can go is no smoking. Being a nonsmoker, I love the idea . It was nice to go bowling and not smell like smoke when I left. I was just wondering how everyone else felt about the whole idea. I know that not all states have done this but was just curious how you feel about it.

Also if you own/run one of the places that has recently done this, how has it affected your business?
Have a great day everyone,

I am in total agreeance with this! Those who choose to smoke can go outside but I have to breath no matter where I am!!

BTW, my husband is a smoker and agrees with this too! He always goes outside or to the designated areas to smoke wherever he is.

I am still holding out hope that I will find something to help him quit.

I think this is great. Most of the places they want you to go outside to smoke.I think in the restrants you can still smole in your section, not really sure as we don't go out to eat that much.My dh is allergic to smoke.

We are in a state that has went no smoking within the last year... it has really hurt our small businesses like bars and bowling alleys.

I am a smoker and am not happy about the law. I have always been respectful of non smokers, I don't smoke in my car when I have a non smoker in the car. Where I worked, we had a smokers section totally away from co workers with ventilation, etc. now we have to go to our cars. I think there should have been a better law to respect everyone. I do not nor does my dh ever smoke in a restaurant and that is one area that I do agree on. The bowling alleys had made it no smoking during hours when children would have been in.

That's my two cents on the issue.

I have asthma, so it's hard for me to be in a room where someone HAS smoked, even if no one is smoking right then. And "no smoking sections" in restaurants really don't work. Unless there is a complete physical barrier between the areas, the smoke goes everywhere anyway, and we usually found that we had to travel through the smoking section to use the restroom. We used to refer to those areas as "secondhand smoking sections." In NJ there has been a ban for a couple of years now and I do appreciate it, because now I can breathe easy and not have to choose a restaurant based on the smoke factor.

I know that a local diner here has blamed a big loss of business on the smoking ban.

I too have never smoked and am alergic to it was not always (which was good since soooo many of my fam/friends did/do smoke) I have had to choose non smoking restaurants too and that is a bummer especially when the ones I wanted to go to let you smoke in them. But lots now are going non smoking and some of my faves are doing it yipeee! Golden Coral another of my faves you have to pass thro' smoking area to get to the bathroom ugh!
I will take what I am served knowing someone out there is being served MUCH less

I also have Asthma and can have an attack after being in a room where someone has smoked. I have no problems staying out of bars or taverns so others can smoke there, bowling alleys are still not smoke free here so I have given up bowling. I only go to smoke free restaurants. MAny more places here are closing up for a few weeks and going smoke free entirely. I never go to my 1 dds because her dh smokes and I get sick.

The city of Lincoln has a smoking ban in all public places. I think it has been in effect for about two years now. I really like it. Like others have said, no smoking sections in restaurants are a joke. I can still smell the smoke of someone who is two tables away from me. Cigarette smoke literally makes me nauseous.

When the ban first went into effect, a lot of the business owners were making a lot of noise about losing business, but that hasn't happened. Since you can't smoke in ANY restaurant, bar, bowling alley, etc., people aren't going to choose another establishment over yours.
