What is the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer?

I need something at night that will help with my allergies. I do not know what I am allergic too but I wake up all stuffed up in the mornings. Really Stuffed Up!!
Would either of these help....or any other suggestions?
(I don't have a docter.......yet.....Mark has a new insurance and I will be looking for new docs in January.)

From babycenter.com:

What's the difference between a vaporizer and a humidifier, and which is more effective?

Answer: While a vaporizer works by heating water until it turns into hot steam, a humidifier creates a cool mist. Either one may help if your child has a cold. The moist air they create can loosen congestion and may make the throat feel better.

The key to using humidifiers and vaporizers is to keep them very, very clean. Germs thrive wherever there is water, so whenever you use the vaporizer, make sure you drain it and clean it thoroughly afterward. Otherwise the bacteria that accumulate can get vaporized into the air and end up in your child's lungs, where they can cause another infection.

We have a Vick's Vaporizer that is a cool mist vaporizer. It works pretty good but the refills for the Vicks filler is rather expensive---WalMart sell an Equate version though.

I remember my mother always using a warm mist vaporizer with us when we were young but Im not sure that you can buy them anymore because of the chance of someone getting burned by the steam. Maybe someone else can tell you if they are still available.

I have sinus problems too and my vaporizer does help me!

Are you sleeping in a really warm room? It has helped me to sleep in a rather cool room instead.

I am going to try using the vaporizer and a cooler room tonight and see if that helps.

Thanx, Tami
