Is there a correlation between menopause symptoms and PMS symptoms?

For those of you who have gone through menopause, were the symptoms bad and did you also have bad monthly menstruation symptoms? My DH and I were talking about this tonight and my curiousity started wondering whether or not there is a correlation between a woman's monthly period symptoms and her menopause symptoms? What has been your experience? I think this would be fun to talk about too.

My DH and I were talking about this on the way to Texas last night. He knows some men, whose wives are going through menopause. He said that these women were awful--kinda like severe PMDD. I told him my theory of how some women have terrible monthlies with the headaches, cramings, cravingings, mood swings, and so on. I have been fortunate in that the only thing I ever do is crave things. I wondered if since my monthly cycles aren't bad if maybe it means my menopause won't be too bad? I thought it was interesting, so I thought I would post it here.

Lucky YOU! I hope it turns out to work out for you that way.

I have been reading a couple of books by Dr. John Lee about menopause and premenopause. His theory is that difficulties with cycles (no matter when they happen) are related to a hormone imbalance, specifically an excess of estrogen and not enough progesterone. I'm hoping to find some answers to the problems I have been having. He recommends using a natural progesterone source (NOT "Provera") to help with this hormone imbalance. I'm thinking about it. I am very cautious about messing with hormones, have never taken any artificial hormones, so I want to be very careful about what I do.

I had a bad time with the change, of cours I had to have a histormecty at 27 so I think it was bad I had night sweats hot and cold flashes mood swings crying for no reason and was very depressed. but because I was so young it lasted till I was about 35 I had head acks and just didnt want to do any thing at all. My DH is so understanding and I dont know how he put up with me I was a monster but he said that He loved me no matter what and He talked to the DR and He explained it all to Him so tell Your DH if it gets to bad to talk to the DR and take long walks alond and take a deep breath. L.O.L. Hugs Bunny

In my case, NO, there is no correlation. I'll take menopause anyday!!
I had severe endometriosis and consequently, was in pain every month during my cycle and usually a few other days as well. I was also in a very bad mood for 33 years!!!!!!

I have only recently started menopause and though it is very annoying, it doesn't hurt. It has not affected my mood the way my periods did, but again, I was hurting and anyone would be in a bad mood.

Interesting, your questions about bad periods equaling a bad menopause and/or viceversa.
My mom and I were just talking about this tonight.
Both my mom and my sister sailled thru their periods every month with no problems. I have never seen either of them hurting with cramps. I , on the other hand was in bed a day or two every month.
I asked my mom about her menopause symptoms before my hyster so I would no what to expect and she said, "Well honey, I really didn't have any problems!!!"
I told her I hate her!!!!
LOL Just Kidding!

I have already had more hot flashes in the past two months than my mom had for a whole decade!!!!
So, in my case, bad periods equal bad menopause...........and my mom, easy periods, easy menopause.
I don't know what genes I have that gave me all the problems and my mom and sister none!!!!

Though I am not hurting, the hot flashes are embarrasing , annoying and very itchy!!!!
I don't get sweaty I get flushed, all over and EVERYWHERE! Ever had a hot flash in your EARS??!!

hugs, train

I am starting to experience hot flashes. This is the first time in my life that I have ever felt hot when everyone else is comfortable! Usually I am always cold. Fortunately it's not too bad at this point and I hope it stays that way.

I guess you could consider me as one who has sailed through her periods! The worst thing I can say about mine are some mild cramping and flooding for about 3-5 days. That is more of an inconvenience. It will be interesting to see what kind of menopause I will encounter.

I want to hear this discussion also.
I'm lucky I've never had to take the pill, never had bad cramps or anything apart from an occassional mild headach they are exactly 26 days apart and are gone in 5 days, read em like a book!

I want to know how this menopause thing works, hints and tips. If i'ts related to periods I'm hoping to sail though also. LOL

I never had PMS except for cramps. Menopause is a whole nother story. I am post meno 10 years. I still have hot flashes especially in the summer. My mood wasn't too bad for a long time. Now I am so moody. I just don't want to be fooled with. If you have any problems before, now it is exaggerated 10 fold. Dry eyes is a problem especially at night, dry skin, dry everything. You need an understanding husband. But as long as my health is good I am ok, and love being outdoors, and working in the yard.
