What Did You Do Frugal Today~December 2018

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.

Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

Thank you Anna.
Good morning to all Happy December.
All my usual frugals here. I have been doing pretty good with the grocery budget.

Hi Lauri

We are trying to be frugal. We got a new puppy 2 Saturdays ago after Cocoa passed away. Unfortunately living in the area we do we need a big dog as a deterent, not so sure she's going to work out for that purpose she's a black lab great dane mix both are friendly easy going dogs LOL! Hopefully she'll learn to at least bark, right now she hides from everything if outside runs up to the back door, if in the house hides behind the couch. Shes 4 1/2 months old. So anyways this "bargain pup" cost $40 at the shelter but came without shots or spaying, came home with fleas and worms Ugh. We've gotten all her shots now but one booster and after she gets that she'll get spayed.

I went to the doctor Thursday and my blood sugars are high 10.1 which is not good so I started a diet today a combination of boiled egg diet and the Keto diet. So a little extra money spent to get items we don't keep a lot of here normally.. lettuce for salads, cheese, more eggs. Chicken wings I can have all the meat I want just have to eliminate most carbs. I had some leftover turkey breast (not from Thanksgiving made a turkey breast end of last week). So todays lunch was a salad with turkey breast. I had a yogurt with walnuts to satisfy my wanting something crunchy. I bought the yogurt yesterday before I got my test results so not going to waste them, will get plain yogurt after they are gone. So the goal is to get the weight off and lower my numbers. My new puppy is named Macy and we are starting to walk together so getting exercise too.

So that's the latest with us.. David is doing o.k. though he's been a little wacka doodle with the hormone therapy, hot flashes, moody, ya know menopausal stuff. Woo Whee good thing my Meno has been pretty easy, not hot flashes and no more moodier than normal so far.

My Christmas shopping is done, almost got it all wrapped.

Have a good evening everyone.

Anna

Thanks for starting the month off for us Anna. I bet the new dog is a sweetheart. I like her name. I hope David gets through this adjustment period with the hormones. I'm sure it's difficult both physically and mentally for him. Good luck with the diet. I need to do the same thing.

Lauri, if you can keep the grocery budget under control then your doing good. I've done terrible but keep thinking of ingredients I'll need for Christmas food. I keep telling myself that I'll try to do a pantry and freezer challenge in January.

Laura, I think 70 is the perfect temperature. That's why I love spring and fall so much here. Those 120 temperatures would be brutal. I think the reason the heat here feels so bad is because of it being so humid.

I stayed home 5 days straight but had a doctor's appointment early this morning a couple hours away. I ended up shopping at two dollar trees, dollar general and Walmart. Walmart was very busy. My frugal was saving 23.00 something dollars at Walmart. I think I've become a dollar tree addict. They have some of the cutest Christmas and other holiday items there. Alot of my tree's ornaments are from dollar tree and to me their beautiful. We have been getting snow and are in for a huge snow storm this weekend. Right now they are saying we are in for 12 plus inches of snow. I sure hope we don't get it. I need to get more Christmas cards fixed up this weekend. I've sent out a few and handed out two in person. I guess that's frugal saving a couple stamps. Well take care everyone and have a good night. If any of you are in the path of this coming storm be safe.

Was ambitious yesterday so washed off the front of the house & the driveway with dish detergent that gets grease & grime off. Put it in a bottle that attaches to the hose that you can wash & rinse to the top of the house. Did use a brush on the vinyl siding that needed it! Didn't use bleach was afraid it would get in my eyes. Came out clean with a nice shine even the windows. Ready to hang the lights now.

Making Papaya Leaf Tea from my new young plants.

Read where papaya leaf tea is very healthy for you. Started using the young leaves from my new plants that I have growing in the back porch. Was surprised how expensive the tea bags are in the stores. Made some fresh today and was happy the young leaves tasted so good in a tea. Did notice the difference in my body right away. Will try it awhile the trees are still growing instead of using the leaves from my bigger trees.

Jean it will be very difficult to keep food under the budget this month. I like to buy and make special treats.
