Cau, so sorry to hear about your broken arm but good of you to check in.

Ellen, eating at your home is probably best for your friend. No waiting to give your order, no waiting to get the food, can eat what she is able to and not feel guilty leaving a plate of food, can sit in a comfy chair, can leave when she needs to and not have to wait to pay the bill.

My sister has changed her retirement plans as she is going to be a grandma in Dec she isn't retiring at the end of the year. Instead she will do a "work from home" at my niece's house when my niece goes back to work in Feb to be the nanny till the end of the school year. My niece is already putting in her applications in to the school districts around the area of the home they are buying so she won't have an hour drive each way for the 2018-2019 school year. Can't switch now or she won't have the paid time off after delivery.

Just saw this and wanted to share. From June 27th through July 2nd, Starbucks is offering buy one, get one free grande iced espressos from 2 to 5 p.m. each afternoon just mention the deal. I don't like strong coffees so I'm thinking if I would splurge I'd have a lot of iced coffees with milk & sugar added to my taste.

Thanks for the explanation MMP! I had forgotten you offered the pins, if and when grandchildren arrive here (hopefully soon, hopefully not longer than five years!) then I will ask! Until then I will dreamÖ

Norma, thank you for the kind words, yes I do understand about her not having the stamina and will be sensitive to that in the future (by looking at my watch and noting the time, and watching her carefully for the beginning signs of fatigue. Yes, her daughter is where my family can help the most. I am the confirmation sponsor for her so we have a link with that.

I love oven fried chicken and am about at the end of our chicken, so I had a thought, has anyone here tried oven-fried steak? I bet if I slice and marinate and bread beef the same way as chicken it would be tender! We have loads of beef in the freezer, pork too.

Those figs look tremendous Sueanne! I will look for the protein blends next time, I am guessing they add some beans to the veggie mix? We are going to try to move the cherry tree to the location where the pear tree gave it up (because I was too lax on the watering, missed a couple critical time points in its first year). Will have to get dh to help me with this. It is too close to the house and needs a trim back/thinning also. The cherry with the aphids is all right, not great, but doing better than before.

Roberta, very thoughtful on the eating out problems! She did seem to like being at the house. I will try to look up what more I can do, and contact the American Cancer Society also. Isnít it so true that our working lives and home lives are so intertwined! I too make many decisions based on what my children are doing or not doing. I know thereís a proverb in there somewhere, something about we make plans and then God laughs and laughs Ö

My frugal was to pack lunch and ask dh to take something out of the freezer for dinner, I know I can make fried rice with all the rice they gave us for Chinese takeout over the weekend. I havenít tried all the tricks to make good rice for frying, too sticky still, but I have a few more ways to try cooking it to see if I can manage a better result. Fried rice is nice for using up a bunch of small portions of leftovers.

Can you all believe it, the fourth of July is almost here! Donít say it! (summer is over when the fourth arrives) No I did not say that, did I? LOL.

Good afternoon all!!

Ellen, you will figure out how best to be a good friend, it might even involve making a few meals for her freezer for when no one is up to cooking.

I bet oven fried steak or oven fried pork would be good. After all, they make "shake and bake" for chicken, and pork, so why not try making your own for beef?

Congrats on packing your lunch, and getting your dh to pull something out of the freezer for dinner. Each time you take, and not buy, you have overcome, and it is a step toward not buying the next time. Each time you get your dh to pull something out for dinner, he is getting the experience of making the decision for getting something he is interested in for dinner, and it will spur him on to doing it the next time.

Roberta, that's sweet that your sister will be able and willing to work from home so that your niece can still work until the end of school. And you will be a great auntie!!!

My frugals for today, are taking lunch, having breakfast at home (pb crackers), making dinner (pulled out cold chicken, and put together a salad), and gratefully accepting a large box of clothes from one of my co-workers. I will go through the box of clothes after I get the dinner dishes done.

Better go for now.

Take care all!! Norma

Nuwave Bio Air Fryer how it cooks

Ellen, Birds eye has all different blends. I like the Southwestern blend with the different beans & corn in the mix. The Italian & Asian are good too. Like when they have b1g1 I stock up. The nu-wave air fryer has changed the way I cook now. No oil just hot air saving calories and time. Bet your dh would enjoy cooking in it too. Joined the cooking group on line they shared a lot of good recipes. If you save the branches you cut from your fruit trees can start new trees as gifts or for your self. I planted cuttings from my sisters tree twenty years ago and it is still growing large figs now. Starting cuttings to give to her for her new house next to me. My other fig trees are twenty five years old and producing twice a year. Started cuttings of those already last year they have figs this year.

Thanks for the link to the air fryer, Sueanne. How nice to have your sister next to you! I knew she was moving closer but hadn't realized you'd be next door neighbors, that's terrific! Mine has been saying she will move closer, but will she actually do it? And before she gets much older?!

Finished up this morning getting outside work done before it rains later. Surprising how a little colored mulch makes everything look so attractive. The mulch should help eliminate weeding and keep the knockout roses and flowers from drying out with the heat. Also did the other beds with fertilizer & palm food. Have these trees a long time but they need constant care since they grow so fast. Little exercise keeps the body stronger & fit.
Have a good weekend.
