Made it my business to get outside after lunch while the sun was warm and work outside for a while with just my blouse. Wanted to get some vitamin D
for my bones. They also say working in the dirt is good for you too. Cleaned out a lot of weeds that look like dandelion before it spreads. They say you cannot eat these. My fig trees will be sprouting soon want to get the ground ready.
Still eating the figs from last summer that I froze. Most on the gardening sites cannot grow figs where it is too warm. My area gets enough cooler nights for them to go dormant for awhile. They are amazed at the size of my trees & fruit.
Been adding them in cooking & smoothies each day for a sweet taste. Picked fourteen cups of figs in one day.

Ellen, They sell Moringa in pill form & powder if you want to try it since it is hard to grow in cold areas.

Our biggest frugals lately have revolved around food. We eat at home, plus I try to be mindful of what's in the freezer and use it. I have been cooking dry beans two pounds at a time and putting what we don't eat in pint jars and freezing them. I do the same with marinara sauce. I freeze in jars what's left after a meal, and save it for next time. It is working out pretty well. I also like having things on hand I can prepare in a hurry if someone shows up unexpectedly. I know this isn't new or earthshaking, but a little bit here, a little bit there....

Ellen thanks. I surely didn't go looking for a new partner. Dan's mom and I are friends and have been for years. I just worked out that we are good together. We make each other happy. So I will enjoy it while I can.

I did take advantage of the Kohl's 1 day on line 25% off baby things. I got several outfits for the baby and had them shipped directly to the kids. Got free shipping used my Kohl's cash and extra 30% off. The bought several sizes so that way he can grow into stuff.

Have a wonderful day.

I picked up some deals at CVS this week. 2 bottles Centrum vitamins for $1.20 ea, 2 Loreal sham/cond for $.50 ea. The bonus coupons that were mailed to me matched up with the sale and coupons so I saved another $6 which made the vitamins & sham/cond deals to good to pass up.

It has been raining for 2 days. I'm so glad it is crazy warm so it isn't ice or snow.

Laura, you are very smart to freeze the leftovers instead of leaving them in the refrigerator thinking that you will use them in another meal in a few days, then don't.

Charlotte, that was very thoughtful of you to buy different sizes of clothing. With my kids I had so many newborn items that I never used.

Picking figs during the winter months in Florida

So happy to be able to pick fresh figs from my tree in the winter months here in Florida. Just picked fourteen figs this morning. Been getting them every day. My other fig trees produce through the summer. For less than $10 each have served me well for over twenty five years. The best part even after freezing them can eat them like just picked.
Have a good day everyone.

Happy Friday!

Colleen—
It seems the decluttering bug really hits in January, doesn’t it? Good for you on going through the craft stuff—I find that’s one of the toughest things to get rid of, but when I do, I don’t end up wishing I hadn’t. Looks like we are supposed to get ice Sunday into Monday—is it predicted where you are at too?

Ellen—
That’s great that you are starting on projects for Christmas already! The holidays always feel like they sneak up on us, so that’s a great way to be prepared. I put away a little money each paycheck for Christmas shopping, and this year I am putting away just a little extra since it will be my turn to host the girlfriends’ Christmas party. I want to have a little extra to be able to buy our snacks, etc. Oh, and I did try taking the back off the hair dryer, but it still sounds like it’s on its last leg. I have gotten my use out of it though, so I don’t feel too bad about it. Who knows, maybe it will hang on longer than I think.

Sueanne—
Working outside always feels good to me too. Good going on all the figs!

Laura—
You are absolutely right—every little bit helps. I thing food and the grocery budget is often one of the best places to save money—you’re doing a fantastic job!

Charlotte—
Nice going on the savings on the baby things! I do really enjoy hearing about your life with Dan.

Roberta—
As always, great deals at CVS! You are such a great bargain hunter!

Frugal here…my next trip to the gas station will offer some pretty awesome savings. My fuel saver discount is at about $1.50 per gallon right now, all without buying anything I wouldn’t normally buy. I have about a half tank left right now, so I don’t need to fill up just yet, but at least it won’t be too painful when I do.

Paul and I are planning to finish up some leftovers for dinner and then head to a nearby local wine bar and use a GC for a little treat tonight. He is not much of a wine drinker, but they have craft beer there also. He doesn’t have the kids this weekend, so it should be a fun excursion out. Tomorrow we may go to a free event—they are doing an ice sculpture display with some various other things going on in conjunction with it. It’s only a few miles from the house, so we will probably stop by for a bit.

I’ve also been trying to find things in my closet that I don’t normally wear and wear them to liven things in my wardrobe up a bit. I feel like I get stuck in a rut and wear the same things to work all the time! It’s fun to get a compliment on something I have had for years as if it were new!

Guess that’s about all for now. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Sueanne, those figs are awesome! My bil who recently moved to Florida bought two fig trees, not realizing they would have to be protected in the winter. He lives at almost 5,000 feet elevation, so it gets cold. Those fig trees are covered up and waiting for the warmer weather.

That is great Sueanne that your trees produce like they do. Have you ever made jig butter, etc.?

Used my $10 off $10 JCPenny coupon today on socks for Hunter 6pk was on sale for $6.99 so I grabbed 2 paks. At the register the cashier said she had a $10 off coupon that I could combine with my $10 rewards so I went back for a 3rd pk of socks. Picked up some for Harper $12 which wasn't part of the sale but I ended up with 3 pks of 6ct socks for $2 plus tax ea. Saved 80%

Checked my Meijer mperks acct while I was in that town and picked up my $13 in free food. This month I had to buy $25 to get the $5 off though which worked out as I got 4 3lb bags of apples for my sister b1g1f. Saved 70%. Received 2 register coupons $1.50 off $15 of meat or seafood, spend $10 get a roll of paper towels for free to use in the next 2 weeks.

Lucked into 4 boxes of clean items & a stroller this morning before the trash trucks came around. What caught my eye was seeing "wooden blocks" in a bag on top of a box. They are foam blocks made to look like pastel colored wooden blocks. So I put it all in my car and will end up selling most of everything.
