What Did You Do Frugal Today~December 2016

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.

Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

What Did YOU Do Frugal Today?

Anna's Email

Several days ago someone got in to my email address and changed my password. We tried for several days to get back in to it and get it changed but could not so we created a new one. I lost all my contacts and have had to start slowly changing all the businesses I had linked to my email, what a complete total nightmare. I have had that email for 16 years. So anyways.. my main point is if you get a email from me, DO NOT OPEN IT.

Norma I can understand tired, 10 hour days are rough as are Anna's 9. We ran Tuesday & then Wednesday and I was wiped out. Went to bed at 8 on Wednesday night & slept to 7:30 Thursday morning. I never sleep like that.
I added the turkey bones from the breast & legs plus the greens. I add garlic, salt & pepper substitute, & amino , salt free bullion to my soup. It was great I'm glad you donot have to lower the price. You need enough to start over

Roberta lad the move of you pacemaker is ok . Great going on losing 20 lbs.Ellen & Jean almost done with decorations, still have to put ornaments on the tree but everything else is done. Cards I hope to have out this week

Dh had a bad arthritis attack Thursday & Friday. Today he seems better.I really over did it & am paying the price

Norma, Lowering the price is a game the realtors play with everyone. When they first come they appraise your house higher so that you sign up with them.
Then they start lowering so it sells faster. Where I live most are older already and sell to go in assisted living or a nursing home. It is a buyers market when prices go lower and the seller can buy something else at a lower price too. Veterans are buying with no money down which is wonderful for first time buyers instead of renting. Just read houses sell faster in the winter since there are less to choose from and people don't like running around in the colder months. See what happens now with a new realtor.

The cooler weather is making everyone tired. Been getting up a little later myself. Seems like the days are going faster with the time change.
Don't think I will make a turkey for awhile for only the three of us. Don't like keeping leftovers around too many days they say it is unsafe if not frozen.
Been two weeks since I went grocery shopping need to see what is on sale
tomorrow now that i have room in the freezer.

My papaya's are starting to ripen have room in the freezer to start freezing some for later use. Love the star shape in the middle. Hope we don't get an early freeze this year. Still able to cut my Moringa tree leaves even with the tree cut shorter it is sprouting more branches on the trunk making up for it. Freeze what I cut so the tree produces more faster. My fig tree with the larger fruit is producing now so need room in the freezer for these too. Use them in smoothies & cooking.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Good morning all!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think he might represent a buyer also who he is telling that he can get me to drop the price for a quick sale. I see where he represented both buyer and seller in a sale not too long ago.

You could have the butcher cut your turkey for you, either in half or quarters, and that way you could freeze part of it, uncooked. Or, butterball has turkey roasts that are boneless. They are just 3 lbs. of white meat, pre-seasoned and delicious.

We had just the best time at the tea. It was good to see people I had not seen in a year, or more. One was a woman I knew in high school. Another was one of my co-workers, Pat, her sister who has been so sick with cancer. She had a huge tumor in her stomach and they couldn't operate on it until they shrunk it. And of course she wasn't at her home here in NJ when she got so sick. She was at her winter home in FL. So she started treatment down there until she was well enough to travel, and then transferred back here where she felt more comfortable. She has now had the surgery and is doing much better. She is also feeling well enough to go back to FL for this winter.

Elvia is not well though. She said her liver numbers are way up and she is feeling generally crappy. She complained of being light-headed a lot, and that feeling of nausea all the time. But she was happy to have somewhere to go. I did have to get the car and pull it around to the front of the church for her because she is not up to walking too far at all.

Other than that I didn't do a lot yesterday. Some of the laundry is done, and I am trying to play catch up now.

Today, is church this morning, then the stores, then home for lunch and a little rest, then back to church for One Winter Night.

I have been doing well with turning the heat off early at night, and not putting it on for awhile in the morning. It is 6:30, I have been up for an hour, and I need to put it on just now.

Better go for now, the 2nd load is in the washer, just hung he first, and have another load in. Need breakfast and to get dressed for church.

Take care all!! Norma

Good morning again!

Just saw this on dollar stretcher tips regarding puppy treats. Sounds good enough for me!

I use canned salmon, eggs, brown rice, oatmeal, and whatever veggies I have in the fridge. I form them into small patties and bake them until they're crispy. My puppy loves them, and I no longer have to buy expensive treats for him!

Norma, I am laughing about the canned salmon. I do buy it to have on hand for emergency weather and they have a long expiration date. Made a loaf the other night was a big hit. The next day had it for lunch in a sandwich. It is very inexpensive for real wild salmon. Have to take out the little bones before cooking.

I like turkey and the price was right 59 cents lb. We like the dark & white meat so just a little was left on the breast. Hated opening the oven and basting when it was still 86* outside for a couple of hours. I will probably make a roasting chicken in the turbo pan for Christmas day which is half the size and less cleanup time. As we get older we eat less and feel better afterwards staying away from gravies & rich foods.

Guess I will go grocery shopping today and get what is on sale to fill in.
Have a good day everyone.
