What Did You Do Frugal Today~September 2016

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.

Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

Happy Labor Day Everyone! They always say it is going to rain and it passes us by. Did manage to color my own hair, and bake a yellow cake mix cake with pudding in it for dessert tonight. Can cut it in squares so you don't end up overeating.
With all the rain showers I am not using my irrigation system kept it off. Plants seem to be growing healthier. My Moringa tree is spreading out now that I have been cutting the leaves from the top. I save it in baggies to add to sandwiches or cooked.
Had a nice lunch from the rest of the whole chicken I cooked yesterday in the turbo cooker with green sliced papaya. Cheaper to buy a whole chicken than use the bones for a soup. Enjoyed it sliced with tomato and miracle whip in toasted bread for lunch. Will cook some tonight with veggies over rice.

Good afternoon all!!

It has been a productive day here.

I emptied and refilled the ice cube trays. I made 2 qts. of iced tea. I cleaned the area back by the washer/dryer, pulled up the rug the cat pans used to sit on, cleaned the floor under there (3 sprayings of pine sol, and some hard scrubbing), and washed the walls in that area. The rug is in the trash.

Howard said he thinks he can get the back door open by just re-adjusting the hinges. So that whole area is ready for him.

I got 42 lbs of cat litter in 3 14 lb. jugs and they are in the car to go home with Ann tomorrow. Boy did they smell good - it had febreeze in it.

And my garbage is out at the curb for tomorrow.

I put out some more stuff that had inhabited the floor in that back area. The stuff is gone.

Better go for now. I need a shower, and I need to get some dinner.

Take care all!! Norma

Did 3 loads of laundry yesterday, back to back in the dryer.

DD2 and I finished clearing off the kitchen table and picking up the floor today. Filled the recycle can up which had been taking me 2 weeks to fill.

I have a grocery list to pick up tomorrow, last day of the sale.

Good morning all!!

Roberta, sorry you had so much recycling. Just the amount of paper that comes into my house takes up quite a bit of room in the recycling can. How big are your cans though - ours are about 30" tall and maybe 24" across. If you have one that the trucks come along and pick up, then I understand that might be difficult to fill.

After yesterday, I will be glad to go back to work, to rest. I was really tired, and when I looked, it really was only dealing with 24 sq. ft. 3 tiles wide by 8 tiles long.

Back to work today. We are doing 8:30 to 5:00 because of holiday pay this week. It will be tough, but we will survive the reduced hours for 4 days.

Frugal today will be all meals from home, and I will keep the ac off until I come home. We are expecting to go back into a heat wave with 90*+ temps starting today.

Well better go for now.

Take care all!! Norma

Norma, the city went to the huge rolling recycle cans the first of the year. I think it is probably a 50 gallon can?? I know it is bigger and much heavier than my rolling trash cans. A lot of the seniors in town have complained about the weight and they are looking into offering the bins for them. I think you could put 3 bins worth of recycles into the cans we now have.

Happy Tuesday. Dan and I went camping for the long weekend. Back to the work schedule now. This week we will be making dinners from the stuff leftover from camping. I do need to go to the grocery store on my way home for a few things. I need toilet paper sense we have no more extra.

Called the 2nd hospital and got myself on a payment plan to pay my hospital bills from my surgery.

Not much else going on here today. Quite in the office a few people are still out from the holiday and 1st day of school.

Have a happy Tuesday everyone.
Have a wonderful day.

Good morning all!!

Today I go in at 9:30 and will be there until 6. Thursday and Friday are 8::30 to 5 days.

It was so difficult to pack my 10 hours of work into 8 yesterday.

Charlotte, welcome back. It sounds like you had a good time. Good thinking about re-making those camping meals using those leftovers.

Payment plans help when you can't afford to pay the whole amount at one time. You can also ask for a discount on the total amount due.

Roberta, those huge cans can get heavy. I know folks who use the smaller ones like our town uses to put the recycling in until right before time to put the rolling ones at the curb. Then, they take the smaller cans out to the curb, lay the big on it's side, fill, lift and take their small cans back to their "holding area".

Well, better go for now. Time to get lunch together.

Take care all!! Norma
