What Did You Do Frugal Today~December 2014

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.

Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

What Did YOU Do Frugal Today?

Anna

Frugal today? Not a particularly frugal day we had fish sandwiches from McDonalds but I did take a half hour walk (free exercise) with Cocoa at the Park of Roses. We went to the pond there and I was very surprised that Cocoa showed absolutely no interest whatsoever in the ducks there, even when they flocked to the bridge where people were throwing bread down to them. She was more interested in sniffing the ground where other dogs had been LOL! I free leashed her on the trail back, she did very well.

We had our cookie exchange and frugal was making the soup from leftover turkey, drinks were water and coffee, and cornbread to go with the soup. My cookies were from cake mixes with items from the pantry.

Good morning all!!

Anna, glad you had a lovely, quiet day.

Happy to hear that Cocoa is doing well on her walks. And you are getting some exercise in too.

How are you doing with the e-cigs? My dn was touting the benefits he feels at dinner the other night. His mother doesn't want to give up the cigs completely yet, so I think he thought he was giving her some good info.

Ellen sounds like your soup was a big hit. I am not a big cornbread fan, but enjoy a piece every now and then.

Glad that the cookie exchange went well.

Well, it is back-to-work today, and I think I am refreshed and ready to face the next couple of weeks. My co-worker is on a cruise, so we will be short handed for that long.

Better go for now.

Take care all!! Norma

Good Morning all

December already? Where has this year flown?

Cheryl, how is Glen doing today?

Anna, how nice your walk sounds. I gather that you have a new puppy? What type is it?

Ellen, your biscuit exchange sounds nice.

Norma, for some reason I really like holly and ivy, and it is my favourite carol! I know you need to have a male and female plant to get the berries, hopefully our next home will have a garden where i can plant them at the very back, not near a pathway!

Frugal today is not spending any money that I don't have, lol. Washing is on and i will hang it in the utility room to dry.

Leftovers for dinner, shepherdess pie with sprouts and kale.

Take care all.

HAPPY DECEMBER!
I agree, this year has flown by.

ANNA - MD is a muscle disease. As it progresses, the muscles weaken a lot. Glen still has some strength in arms, but not much in legs. The scary part is ALL of our organs are muscles. That is why his breathing is affected with his lungs.

CHRIS - hope you had a good trip and a fun weekend! Can't wait to hear about the trip.

ELLEN - glad the cookie exchange was a hit.

HELLO to everyone.

It is a much colder and gloomy day here. Temps have dropped 30* since yesterday. It is raining/sleeting a little.
Have a great day.

yes, Cheryl, here too. Yesterday was balmy and today is dreary and damp, not a pleasant kind of damp at all.

LIz, is sheperdess pie the same as shepherd's pie? Do you use lamb or beef?

Norma, btwork for me too, but everything is still broken, the heat is only warm in here because it was warm outside, the water system is still broken, and the freezers are not all hooked up to the remote monitor system until next week. Business per usual.

Frugal for me was using my daughter;s old phone (getting it online) until I find my phone! I hope to clear off my desk tonight and find it. Been a week without a cell phone, haven't missed it much (quieter and calmer without it) but is nicer to have for convenience when out and about.

Dh is out deer hunting again. I do hope he gets one as we make our snack sausages and venison jerky from the meat.

Ellen,

Shepherdess pie is a vegetarian version on shepherd's pie, or in my case vegan. This one I used textured vegetable protein cooked with a vegetable gravy, onion, garlic and carrot. You can also make it with lentils which is also nice although hubby is not such a fan of lentils.

Need to go and put dinner on,

BBL.

To help: shepherd's pie is made from lamb mince, cottage pie is made from beef mince, think you call it ground beef? Shepherdess pie is vegetarian/vegan version. Apart from the meat, all other ingredients remain the same and all topped with mashed potato.

We just sold my older 18mpg Audi SUV for a newer 45mpg Toyota Prius! We could pull it off with just 1 car seat now.

I just filled up for $23, as opposed to the $80+ fill-ups I was used to. Doesn't get more frugal than that!
