I also keep a soup bucket in the freezer. Dump everything into a pot or the slow cooker, heat up and season.
Connie, What a great idea!
I'm gonna try it....

Went to the grocery last night and bought mainly meats. Bought most of those on the nightly discount of that days meat.

We had one of those quick meals tonight too as we had been to both Grandma's house and got back late. DH had a frozen Gardenburger meal, I had an individual bowl of Turkey soup I had frozen. Kids did not want the soup so they had a bowl of peas then split a small can of tropical fruit.

Other meals have been mentioned, breakfast foods. We fix different ways but one way is to make a muffin like McDs. The grilled cheese sandwich and soup; spaghetti, and precooked meals.

Lee and Barb - hope you and your families get to feeling better soon! And anyone else who is under the weather. My best investmetn was one of the ear and throat examination kits. It is basically a small flashlight that you attach ear pieces to or a tongue depresser. It also has a book showing you what different ear and throat problems look like. It has been great as my kids are very prone to ear infections.

You girls are on this frugal thing.
I am trying to be more frugal, or at least mindful in the new year. My frugal goal for the day is being aware where
I am spending my money. Amazing to me, is that when I diet, i want to spend. Pray for me, I am dieting AND trying not to spend money!!! I did ok yesterday, but I went out and bought a new baby gate when I had one that worked. I do not like to spend money on things that I really do not have to. For dinner I made a beef roast, made from bottom round roast I got at 1.45 a lb. I was happy for this. I bought the largest i could, and had the butcher cut it in half. I used 1/2 of it, and going to make another dinner out of the remainder. That is roughly 2.50 per dinner on meat, 6 potatoes, 2 carrots and an onion.. 1.00, salad and can of corn.. Wow, last night dinner for four was 4.50. My 5 year old dd said it was her favorite! That sorta makes up for the gate.. lol
Have a great day!

{we call "toad in the hole"} When I was growing up Mom made these as well but we called them Popeye Eggs.

Ericka, I've lost 10 lbs over the past 8-10 weeks mostly by replacing most of my drinks with water and watching the sugar intake. I've yet to start working out haven't found the time but do walk a lot during my normal day and take stairs instead of elevator when available. I want to lose another 20 or so lbs and finally get to a pre-pregnancy weight after 10 yrs, lol. I'm hoping the weight loss will keep me from having to take medicine and releave some other medicine problems.

Picked up the repaired snowblower last night. Frugal was having it repaired instead of replacing, unfrugal was having it repaired... lol Now to get some snow to try it out.

Roberta

Becky, I hope she is OK! I know that ER bills are costly, but you were right to have her checked.

Roberta, congrats on your weight loss. Really--you only changed most of your drinks to water, and you were able to do that? I'd like to get at least to "pre-Luke" weight. I know I'll never make it back down to what I weighed before my oldest--but if I could hit a middle ground it would be nice. (Actually, the problem is that ALL the weight collected IN my middle!) LOL!

Bellasmom, pot roast is a big favorite in my house too. My 10-year-old DD calls it "brown meat" LOL! I always cook enough for 2 meals at a time, shred the rest of the meat, and heat it in gravy to serve over noodles for the second meal. It also works in enchiladas.

Robin, that ear & throat kit sounds like a good investment for any family. Too bad I didn't know of it when my Big Kids were younger! Might still look into it though Luke is prone to ear infections.

Good Morning, Yesterday I made my spreadsheet to track spending, especially grocery spending now I just have to be sure to use it all year. Over the holidays I spent a fortune having all the holidays at my house. Frugal was hitting 3 store(all within a few miles) and only spending $108.00, that encluded a 9 lbs boneless pork loin @$1.69 a lb & 2 big pkgs of boneless chicken breast also at $1.69 a lb. I am planning on making menus for 2 weeks & next week only getting fruit & milk. I'm crossing my fingers.

Wow, lots of great quick meal ideas, thank you all! i think I am especially going to try to implement breakfast for dinner at my house. Just to see how it goes!

On the losing weight and taking the stairs versus the elevator. Don't forget the parking lots also, park further away versus trying to find that closest parking space, you get those few extra steps, and save a few drops of gas!

Not much frugal here today. My emotions are a little haywire this morning. Our one neighbor's four week old baby died. I don't particularly care much for all of the family, well mostly their "ways". But, a few of the family are okay. My DS likes them. It is a mother with two teenage daughters, and a teen son. Both the teen daughters have babies. And the boyfriends are living there, the one boyfriend, don't even try to work. And neither of the teen girls try to work. I don't know if I should attend the baby's funeral or not. The poor family is having problems getting money together for the babies funeral.

Frugal is dh making it all week without going out to eat for breakfast or lunch!!! He told me he would come home for lunch today. I will be sleeping, so he could still sneak out and eat somewhere. He usually spends $50 a week on meals/foods/drinks. He has bought 2 pops this week. A bit expensive, but worth it for him to get himself back to no pop.

I told him that I was very happy that he was doing that this week. He said that carrying my lunch to work was saving myself, because vending machine food kills a person. LOL I told him that was not correct! I have been carrying my lunch for almost 2 years which has saved us $100/month.

Yesterday I put back about a day's pay into a savings account. I thought I would tell you that I actually did it. You know, accountability.

Next is to pay the bills, mail them Sat. so no late charges or having to get 2 cent stamps, at least not as many.

Do any of you use a price book for your grocery shopping and such expenses? If so, how well does it work?
