exercise and diet

Okay, I gained about 5 pounds over the holidays and I can't seem to get it off. Here's what I do to try. I exercise 4 times per week (45 minutes of cardio) and 15 minutes of sit ups. Plus I've reduced my calorie intake to a moderate level eating mostly healthy low fat foods. I've exercised in the above manner for quite a while (even before the holidays) so thats not new but the low caloric intake is new, and I thought that combined with the exercise would allow me to drop the 5 pounds in not time. I haven't dropped a pound. I am getting discouraged. Can you offer any insight on as to why this isn't working for me??

Gosh, I don't know. My only guess is that by working out 4 days a week, you may be building muscle. And doesn't muscle weigh more than fat? This is just a guess and I would consult an expert, but this could be the case. However, you are not lifting weights, right? So, I really don't know.
