Straw Bale Gardening

Has anyone here done this? I saw the book online and am waiting for it from the library and there are some utube sites also. If you have any experience with it I'd be interested to hear about it. It sounds like an easy way to go.

Hi Joyce,
My DH has done this before many years ago. He says it works great. I will ask him when he gets up how to do the straw bale gardening. My late FIL also used to do the same thing but I don't remember how he did it either. Wish I could, but it's just been so many years ago till I have just forgotten. I will try to find out from my DH when he gets up just how you are suppose to plant the bales.
Hugs, Paula

This is a link that tells how to straw bale garden. I have not done it but always wanted to! Might do that with my leftover unused straw bales at the end of winter!

Thanks for answering ladies. Paula I've gone to a couple of sites and it seems to be a good way to garden; even putting the straw bales on concrete. Cat Lover I saw where the last years bales are supposed to be good too and easier to plant plants. From what I saw on one site fertilizer should be used with new bales. I'm waiting for a book to come in to the library but may bite the bullet and go buy it. I'm afraid the book from the library may take too long as they haven't ordered it yet. You could sure solve problems of drainage, not enough sun, too much sun, by rearranging your bales.
