We don't do anything special.. we agreed a long time ago not to buy cards, candy, etc. it's so commercialized it disgusts me, same with Sweetest Day. We are bombarded by the media advertisements of buy this special designed heart shaped necklace, this year Kays Jewelers is pushing this open heart necklace, last year it was the "Circle Of Love" I was so glad dh didn't get me one when half the ladies in his office came in after Christmas sporting the same necklace. Like Christmas, it has lost it's meaning by so much commercialism. We love each other and show it in small ways everyday by the things we do for each other.. if I see something my dh likes I buy it then and give it to him, we don't wait for special holidays to show our love. Works for us after 23 years of marriage.

We usually celebrate in a small way. Last year dh got me a chocolate rose and sent me a Valentine screensaver to put on my computer. I usually give him some type of chocolate and a card. Last year we went out to lunch because we had gotten restaurant gift cards from friends for Christmas and saved them to use in February.

Although I love receiving flowers (any kind) it rarely happens (3x in 18yrs). DH decided they die so he doesn't want to buy them. The whole issue about it being for me and my wishes escapes him. LOL Otherwise it's just a commercial holiday to make single people feel bad and others feel guilty if they don't blow a wad of moo-lah on their significant other.

We were on a tight budge when the kids were younger, we agreed many years ago to just have it simple.

I would buy them each a small heart with chocolates. And have a nice dinner at home. Now I buy the grandkids a small heart and a card for each one.

We celebrate it at home; I make something they all like, have dessert and usually buy something small for my kids. I love flowers and my dh and kids will buy them for me often just cus I love them.

As long as your don't need to go into debt to show some one you love them.
In some ways I don't get it maybe I am old a cynical, once we married we decided our anniversary would be the day we celebrated.

It's not done in schools, no one I know has actually given anything valentines to their kids or friends, if they do it's to be only hubby or partner, suppose it's not as big over here.

If we have time dh and I get each other a card. He might get me a bunch of flowers, and I always cook something he likes for dinner. I have written cute love notes and stuck them in his lunch box to find at work, but its been a while since I did that.

The kids take valentine's cards to school and everyone must be given one whether you like that person or not, so that feelings aren't hurt.

We got restaurant gift cards for Christmas again this year, so will use those, probably next Friday. Otherwise, dh will just get a fancy piece of chocolate and a card.

My family and I try to celebrate without falling into the commercial trap. Its just an extra day to remind people that love is a terrible thing to waste.

I go all out for Valentine's Day. It is my favorite time of year. It is a time to tell someone you LOVE then, that you really love them.
