Internship in Florida

So, how is everyone doing? I am doing awesome, and
here's one thing that is headed in the right
direction.

All right, so to start off with, I heard about this
Walt Disney World in Florida college program. They
talked about it last semester, and I was interested,
but I had to work, so I couldn't go to the seminar.
Well, this guy I worked with told me that I should've
gone, and I was a little bit sad. Well, luckily, I
quit before they had it, so I could go this time.
They talked a lot about it, and it only pays about
$6.75 an hour. That's not the important part though.
You can get lots of experience, and it also looks good
on your resume. I mean, think about it...who wouldn't
gasp if they saw "I worked at Walt Disney World in
Florida for a semester"?

Anyway, so, we also interviewed that day, and I
realize the interview could've gone so much smoother.
Anyway, so I told them I'd like to do lifeguard,
although I knew I couldn't pass the test, because I
can't tread water to save my life. Well, I didn't
think about it for a while, well, on and off I did.
Well, a few days later, I got "the letter." It said I
was accepted to work as a Quick Food Service "cast
member!"

This will go from Aug.-Dec., and we'll live in
apartments, and your rent is taken out of your
paycheck. They do get you rides to and from work, and
even to Wal-Mart. ha! There's so much I want to do
in Florida, and I am planning stuff already!!!

Anyway, I need to let them know in about 2 weeks, and does anybody know about airplane tickets and how I can get them for cheap?

Thanks!

That's great that you got the job!! As for airline tickets, are you just looking for one way? I'm not sure what part of the country you're coming from so I can't tell you which airlines are cheapest from your area but here's a few ideas: go to www.expedia.com or www.orbitz.com and see what they come up with. If your dates of travel are flexible they can show you which days/times are the cheapest. Also places like www.priceline.com are good if it's just you traveling and you don't mind a stopover.
Good luck, you'll have such a great experience at Disney. I managed a Disney store and I know that using their name on a resume and showing that you went through the Disney training program is a good plus when looking later on for your future jobs.

Try these www.jetblue.com or www.flyi.com

I do know that if you find a low fare on orbitz, expedia and the like try the carriers website. It might be a few $$ cheaper because of fees. You'll be armed with available flights before you check, so it should go smoothly.

Be good

Try travelocity.com and I have really good luck at times going directly to the airlines websites, like NWA.com There is also a site Sidestep.com that will list all the airlines prices from highest to lowest for the dates you are looking for. Good Luck, and don' wait to long, most of the better fares are 14 day out. The closer to the date you travel, the more expensive it can get. Sounds like a great opportunity, wish I was a lot younger and could do it, it would be fun, hard work, but fun.

Internship in Florida

Hi! I have no advise on plane fares but I know that it is a great experience. My Daughter was in the program Aug-Jan 2001 and loved it !She was in entertainment(characters) and did various face and costume characters. She was involved in parades, character breakfasts and other Disney programs. They do provide apartments for you to rent and transportation to the parks and shopping(this is FREE). It was a great experience and she is still in contact with people she met there. People come from all over the world to do the program. If you get the chance to do the program grab it. I gave her airfare there and said she could get her fare home herself which she did on expedia.com.Good luck and go for it!!

musical waters,

That sounds like a great opportunity. I don't have any advise on airfare other than what has already been given. But, there is an alternative to airfare. If money is the biggest factor and you have plenty of time to get there, you could always take a bus. Have you checked with Greyhound? I realize it would be a very long trip for you but hey, you could use the opportunity to get caught up on your reading or studies! I took a bus trip when I was a teenager. It was an experience I will never forget! In the past Greyhound has had some great deals for cross country travels. Just an idea. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Gloria and welcome to one of the best places on the web! I'm musical_water's mom and it was great to hear a mom's side of the story, and it gave me comfort. With just my part time income, we are having a crazy time trying to figure out how to come up with the travel money, but it will come. I'm just as concerned about getting her some kind of insurance as the travel costs. We have lots to do to get her ready to go and are praying for the speedy sale of my mother's home to pay her going.
I want her to go, to have this wonderful experience. I actually wanted to go to Washington DC to do an internship, many years ago, but my Mom wouldn't let me go.

Thank you for the thought of everyone sending $1.00 . Nice thought. There are some wonderful people here! She is such a go getter, that I know she will figure something out. We have a couple of months and hopefully the state insurance will have open enrollment by then. Who knows, maybe Dad will have a job with benefits (or me) by then.

We looked at airline tickets online last night. She has to be there during a certain timeline, but not before. I want her to go non stop, not knowing the airports, I don't know what it will be like finding where she is supposed to be. We found a nonstop, but it will put her there a couple of hours before she is supposed to check in. I finally decided that we should be grateful for this as we don't know how long it will take her to get to her check in point from the airport and she will need time to find her luggage and catch the shuttle or taxi without a lot of stress.
