Hi Mom 2-4: I agree with your comments. Your weather must be milder than here in NW Wisconsin, because my hanging season goes from May to Sept/Oct. (if I'm lucky). Although we have had a mild winter so far (no snow yet, warm temps--even in the 40s this past weekend!!) I see so many in my neighborhood continuing to hang out laundry. There is one woman who hangs her sheets all winter!! My next door neighbor had jeans, etc. on the line this past weekend, and I KNOW they didn't dry--jeans barely dry in the midst of summer. Although I love the smell and frugality of hanging out, I just don't have the time to do things twice if it's not necessary.

Thanks for your input--

A "die-hard" laundry " hanger outer".....Rivermom

I have been hanging our laundry up in the basement--I have a small line and two drying racks. I run jeans and towels through the fluff cycle so they aren't stiff. Dh laughs at me--I have to do a load a day if I want to hang it because that's all that fits. He loves getting the gas bill, though, and seeing the savings.

I enjoy hanging clothes outside in the summer, too--can't wait for the warm weather!! I just hate having to clean the cobwebs off the lines before I hang my clothes!:mad: And this past summer, bees decided the inside of the bars would make a nice nesting place--a blowtorch and some foam insulation took care of that. though!

I felt a little silly when we first moved here, hanging up clothes. Then I noticed that most people around here do, and you're almost considered "odd" if you don't! This is a farming community, and everyone watches their pennies. Makes me feel right at home.

using a clothes line

In order to save money...(I am taking an extended maternity leave) We are using a clothes line. My question is: How do I keep my bath towels from becoming stiff? I thought if I used fabric softener it would work but it doesn't. My other clothing is rough but not stiff. Any advice?

Not only do I Love the economic benefits of line-drying, I also love the nostalgic feeling I get whenever I hang laundry, and the pleasing look, too! So homey looking!
