Yes, I did have somestaining in the dryer and it ticked me off because I can't get the stains out. I think it was the dryer sheet and it was a bargain brand. I don't have any problem with the better quality sheets and with the liquid added to the rinse cycle.

Any ideas how to get the stains out?

I don't know if this would work on fabric softener stains. BUT....

Once my DH left a pen in his pocket and I missed it before putting the shirt in the washer. It did not burst in the washer.....but it made an awful mess in the dryer. I got that Clorox CleanUp in the spray bottle. I would spary a spot that was in the bottom of the dryer, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off. It did take a little "elbow grease" along with the Clorox. After I cleaned one spot, I would turn the dryer tub so that another spot was on the bottom and start again. I eventually got them all cleaned off!

I would recommend that you wear a mask when doing this due to the clorox fumes...and turn on the vent fan if you have one where your dryer is located.

I just realized that I forgot something else........

after getting all of the ink stains out of my dryer, I took a hand towel and wet it with warm water and then wiped out my entire dryer twice (I rinsed the towel out thoroughly and used it again) and to make sure I got any residue left from the Clorox Cleanup
before using my dryer again.

I also used to forget to catch the rinse cycle, so I bought the Downey ball for liguid fabric softeners. Just toss it in with your clothes at the start of the wash and it opens during the rinse cycle. I just had to remember to put it in with the wash! LOL But now I can't use it as I have a front load washer.

You can find it at most grocery stores or Walmart for around $1 or so. It's been a while since I bought one. Also the ball sometimes would get grooves in it from the top of the washer( I probably was using too much water). I would just hot glue the spots and that would fix it.

The Downey wrinkle reducer really works! My dh loves it!

I either water down the fabric softeners or just use less!

DOWNEY IS THE BEST FABRIC SOFTNER IN MY OPINION. THE SMELL IS GREAT. I USE THE SHEETS. DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO USE A FULL SHEET. I AM A WOMAN ON HER OWN SINCE MY SON LEFT TWO YEARS AGO AND WENT INTO THE NAVY, TO I WASH MUCH SMALLER LOADS. I SOMETIMES USE ONLY A THIRD OF THE SHEET AND GET THE SAME SOFTNING BENEFIT AND GREAT SMELL. A BOX LASTS ME FOR A LONG TIME.

I have tried several different varieties/types of fabric softeners in the past year or so. So far the best results I've had is with the liquid softeners (as I line dry a good # of things). Our family favorite has been Downy Free (d/t allergies). I only use 1/2 the amount suggested in the Downy ball and fill the rest with water. However I recently came across a very frugal suggestion that I tried when I ran out of Downy. Use your Downy ball and fill it the amount directed with plain white vinegar. No fooling. It softens nicely and eliminates the detergent residue that can show on dark clothes. There is no vinegar smell and boy is it cheap! I am not normally a huge fan of make-it-yourself cleaners etc. but this one is great. Now I'm looking around for other things to try in this area. Good luck!! Squeaky Clean in MN!!!

I use had been doing the same thing with liquid softener and it worked fine. For every third wash, I use white vinegar instead too. One thing to remember though, the vinegar doesnt help with static cling so I use softener sheets. Ive found that I can buy the sheets a lot cheaper and then cut them in half to save even more money. One product that I do miss using is Downy wrinkle reducer. I loved that stuff but didnt like the price. Im waiting for it to go on sale and hopefully along the way Ill find some coupons for it.

Ihave only recently tried using the vinegar rinse (this summer) so I hadn't noticed the static cling problem. This winter in MN however wil be a different story and I will probably try alternating like you do. Have you ever noticed a change in your colored laundry-like fading or increased bleeding? So far so good here, but we are all wearing our "summer whites" wardrobe-ie t-shirts. After reading all the posts I was remebering how nice it used to be to choose detergents etc. based on fragrance. Not anymore, both my dh and ds have allergies that don't agree with all the added fragrances. Oh well, we count our blessings that they can tolerate commercial detergents w/o fragrance and don't need to but special cleaners. Thanks for your input!

Nope, I havent noticed any bleeding colors on anything. I do notice that the clothes dont have that sticky feeling to them any more from all of the build-up of softeners ! I had such a major static cling problem before, hopefully this winter wont be the same way.

I just joined this web site but I thought I would put my idea about fabric softners in. I add water to downey making it 1/2 portions of each. I then cut a small sponge in half spray the downey on it and throw it in the dryer. The downey goes twice as far and because you can use the sponge over and over you save on dryer sheets. It works just fine for me.
