I love hearing your thrift shop stories

My dd is 11 now, but we have been shopping at thrifts shops all over since she was a baby. She loves to brag to her friends where she got her "brand name" clothes and one of a kind clothes and what price she paid for them.

How cute!

I think that our children would have gotten along, ajrsmom and wildflower! My DD is 19 now, so she would make a better babysitter for your children, than a pal!

My daughter is now 2o, but like the rest of you all, we still shop the thrift stores too. It is frugal, but also FUN to see what treasures we can find.

Jenna, I sure wish that your daughter lived closer to us. I could use a good babysitter right about now! Its time for Mommy and Daddy to spend some time out together ALONE---ya know what I mean? Its been a llllloooonnnnggggg time for that.

ajrsmom, that would really be great, wouldn't it!?

My DD is really a wonderful babysitter too. I have had parents tell me that their children don't anybody else! She has a "babysitting kit" that she brings with her. It is specifically packed for the child/children she is babysitting for. Sometimes it has games and videos for little ones and other times she brings magazines and nail polish for the older girls. When she was really babysitting a lot, she could have worked every day of the week! Sometimes families booked her as much as a month in advance, so they would be sure she would be free.

Sounds like your daughter is one of the old fashioned babysitters from the 60-70's era.

I got a good laugh out of all your frugal moments. I still save my baggies too and cereal liners.

The one embarrasing moment that sticks out in my mind is a time when my now 23 year old daughter went with me to a local grocery store. I was a single parent at that time and $$ was VERY tight... Well, she was about 5 and we had gone past the toy section at the end of an isle. She spotted a toy that she begged for( and she wanted it badly...), well it was 7 or 8 dollars and I told her no, not today. So she blurted out "But can I get it when you get paid Friday??" It seems funny now, she was a rude little stinker back then... Now she is a Mommy herself and is experiencing the same magical moments...
To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.
