Sure you can, just gut a regular (used, of course) envelope and use it for a template.

I have used wallpaper samples for many things over the years. When my daughter was 10, we did a chefs-in-the-kitchen birthday party, with many frugal aspects. When my kids were young, I always provided a warm-up crafts project for their guests to do as they arrived, to occupy them while waiting for everyone to arrive.

For the chef's party, I had some very cheap muslin fabric and it was right after Desert Storm and you could buy yellow ribbon for a penny a yard, and I made all the girls chef's aprons (yellow ribbons to tie it on) and chef's toques, and gave them the recipes and ingredients to make their own pizzas, pretzels, cake, and ice cream. I had photocopies of all the recipes an a bunch of wall paper samples, and each girl could make her own little cookbook to take home with her apron and hat. The party and the favors were a HUGE hit!

Wallpaper samples are good for making a mat on pictures frames. My daughter and I went through a phase of making doll rooms inside cardboard boxes, and wallpapersamples were very useful for all kinds of things in that. You can also make really interesting beads from it, we did those in Girl Scouts. I think the instructions are at http://www.angelfire.com/ia/barbspad/wallpaper.html which has many other things you can do with wallpaper.

Wow! I will have to tell her Mom about those ideas in case she hasn't used the whole book up yet. She's only 5.

Don't forget you can use wallpaper to wrap gifts, too. Way sturdier than paper!!

I haven't bought a card in a long while--I send e-cards whenever possible. I also got several boxes of mixed cards from Grandma B when she passed--including blank ones. They may be old, but the sentiments are the same!! The kids make cards from construction paper. I will eventually get a card-making program, I fully intend to have this puter pay for itelf lol!!

Floor & countertop cleaner/disinfector

I know I could do so much more, and all of you have great ideas. But my favorite all-purpose cleaner has a very simple recipe--and it cleans and disinfects almost every surface in your home (excluding finished woods!)

2 cups water
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup rubbing alcohol (a little more in winter)
1/2 tsp. lemon juice

It works so well on floor, sink, countertop, etc. No need to buy 409, Fantastik ever again!! And what's with these "wipes" that have everything from windex to clorox in them? Just use old cloths and save the money!!!

Thanks to all-- junebug.

Junebug--I use that same recipe minus the alcohol. It does work great!! I would imagine the alcohol would disinfect better? I've got a few extra bottles so I'll try it. I DO have a few assorted containers of those wipes--I keep them around for those moments when company is knocking on the door and the house is trashed. One container has lasted almost a year, so it's not exactly unfrugal. I wouldn't use them exclusively, though!!

Junk Food. My DH doesn't like eating too much sweets. Once in a while I'd buy cookies and chips, but not all the time. FOr snacks I buy fruit of vegetables.

lovelyme7-

Good job.. junk food is both a costly drain of money with no valuable return and no benefits.

We have only been to one evening movie at a theatre in years...we only go to daytime ones and bring with the $1 refill cup each time. I, too, try to not buy any dry clean clothing. I also buy toiletry items only on sale with coupons making the price either extremly minimal or sometimes free. I rarely, if ever, pay full price for anything.

Hi, eaolson, and welcome to FC!

Our local theatre recently discontinued using those refill cups and actually tried to TAKE AWAY my DH's cup when he presented it for a refill. He wouldn't let them have it but he gave up on the refill.
That's just one more reason we don't go to movies much.

I don't buy expensive face cleanser. I use Dove beauty bars, they work better than any expensive cleanser I was suckered into buying in the past!

I buy my husband his favorite soda when it's on sale, and stock up. I tried getting him to not drink soda, but he refused. So, buying it when it's on sale is cheaper than him "sneaking" and buying a soda or 2 every day at work.

We don't go to the theater either. Partly because I can't stand being annoyed by obnoxious people, and partly because of the cost. We have satellite tv, so we rent movies off of there.

I always pack my lunch to take to work, DH does the same.
