I've been using the water on my outside plants and it hasn't hurt them at all. In fact, the mild soap can be good for those with bugs. The dirty water has bits of nutrients in it , too.
My grandma's always did it and they had great looking flowerbeds, come to think of it.
I use the Tightwid Gazette as a reaffirmation tool.IT makes sense to reread it and surround yourself with like minded people. Kind of like the Bible!

dishes

We use to dish pans one is filled 3/4 full with soap and water and the other is fulled 1/2 full with just hot water. Wash least dirty (scraping dishes first helps) to the dirtiest. I've had to turn to this with children doing dishes all our hot water was run down the drain.

This has saved us money.

I have had to greatly educate my children on dish washing techniques because they were always leaving the water run. Now I make them put water in both sinks, one for washing one for rinsing. I also make them scrape dishes first! My problem is my teen age son and his HOLLYWOOD SHOWERS!!

I'm having trouble teaching DH how to wash dishes without running the water constantly. I just stay in bed in the AM when he is in the shower. I don't even want to know!

LOL at Hollywood showers and Renee staying in bed. I needed that laugh. As for watering plants with dishwater.......good point. I'll have to try that for sure. DD's cat is eating my spider plant. Maybe that will help somehow.

This is gross and off the subject. But my cat seems to eat my spider plant to make herself "sick" to bring up hairballs. I give her hairball treats, but they don't work nearly as well as the spider plant. (I guess she is trying to be frugal - my spider plant is huge and she only eats a little )

I love the Tightwad Gazette, but it is hard to incorporate all her tips all at once. If you do want to incorporate do it little by little and not all at once or you will get overwhelmed.
