tent intact, polls broken
Ok frugal bunch...here's a question for you. I have a 4-man dome tent that I got out of the garbage. The polls are broken (which is likely why it was in the garbage -- as dh says, "there is usually a good reason that something is in the garbage" -- sometimes the only reason is laziness, though) but the tent is fine. Any creative ideas for how I can use the tent -- all ideas welcome? Thanks!

Have you tried looking for some at garage sales? Sometimes people will sell a tent that may not be good, but the poles may be. Good luck.

I'd suggest your local freecycle group.

Call the manufacturer, it may be under warranty and they will replace poles for you if you provide originals, or even if you don't. Not everything requires a receipt. If it was me I'd probably just tell them. Maybe they have a mismatched set or something that will work.

Ellen, I didn't think of that. The manufacturer may also sell tent poles as well. I know regular stores sell the steaks.

Yeah, I guess tent poles likely come in only a couple of lengths. I'll have to keep an eye out. I can always hit the curbs next Tuesday night

If you do end up getting poles, try and get the ones with the elastic/shock cord inside. It makes putting the poles together a 'snap,' pun intended!

place to purchase replacement poles for tents
I looked on the internet and this site seems to have where you can purchase replacement poles, also I read Walmart or Kmart stores sell replacement poles too. Anyway, I hope this helps you.

I think I can! Its one of those poles that bend and flex into a rounded tent. About 4 inches of it is broken at the top where the least of the bend occurs. I could put a small piece of pvc pipe, and I think we've got some in the garage. I'll give it a go today! Thanks!
