More Surprise Parties!

DH and I have had to turn down an invitation to a surprise party for one of his sisters and her husband given by their kids. To our surprise we were asked to "reschedule" our plans so we could be there, We always go to many of these parties they throw; they always have a party all the time! lol We were both a little "put off" that we were asked to reschedule what we had planned, but handled it politely and told them we just couldn't. We actually have a meeting that is scheduled by another group we belong to so we have no say on when they schedule their meetings and we have to be at this one as it is the start up of our CSA for this year. Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen and how you handled it. With all the parties they are going to be planning I know they are going to be others coming up we aren't able to make. Plus they have them at night (so their day schedules aren't interupted) so the parties usually start at 7 at night and they are a 120 mile (at least) round trip for us to go. Then of course the drive home when we are already tired! So a few polite ways of saying no (since they think we should reschedule what we may have going) is what I'm looking for! lol

Under these circumstances don't know how worried I'd be about being polite. Your life, your time.
