Introduction from Monroe

Hello,

I live in Monroe, which is about 15 miles east of Everett. Thought I would introduce myself and see who lives near by. I've been a member of FamilyCorner for a couple of years now, and just now realized that there is a forum for us Washingtonians!

A few of my favorite things? Paying off debts, finding what I need as frugally as possible, finding great deals on stuff, cooking, baking, learning to be more self-sufficient & less of a consumer, learning how to get by without that new gadget that looks so cool!

I've was laid off about a year ago and finding openings in my field have been difficult. So finding ways to cut back expenses and still live has been a major goal of mine. These boards have really helped. I'm still learning how to cook. A year ago if it didn't come from a drive up window, a waiter, a wrapper and sometimes the freezer, a box or a can then I had no idea what to do with it. That is quite a bit different now. Amazingly enough I am a lot happier now than I was a year ago, even though I have just enough money to pay the bills and not much else.

I learned how to can this summer; that was interesting and fun:

-I grew one tomato plant. It gave me 30 pounds of tomatos (about 1/3 of what was ripening) before the dog realized they were tennis ball sized and edible. But I hunted the library, found some recipes, made spaghetti sauce and canned 10 quarts. 30 pounds only make 10 qts. Scary!

-my roommate's folks have 3 apple trees. Went down there and got apples - Free! Learned to make apple sauce. Only canned 30 quarts. Ummmm - apple butter!

enough from me. Hope everyone has a GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON!!

Take care of yourselves!
