Trainsmom,
Glad to see you here! I know what you mean about the crabs. We lived on the gulf coast of FLA for years, and the crab wasn't the same. We went back to MD to visit a few weeks ago, and I think I caught up on 18 years worth of Md Blue crab. I won't go into details, but dozens were consumed. LOL We have discovered that Phillips has frozen crab cakes that are remarkably good, for that fix that you need.

I grew up in College Park and near Solomans Island. After going back a few weeks ago, we discovered that we could no longer live there. (We hadn't been back in 10 years)

Morelia - we lived in Frederick for 5 years, back when it was still rural. It's not that way anymore. Going to Hagerstown was like going back in time.

I'll always be a Marylander - I have Blue Crab in my veins.

Thank you for responding. Your thoughts brought back fond memories.

I will have to see if someone in California carries the Brand Phillips for my crabcakes. I will check that out.

I can still totally pick up on the Maryland accent if someone calls from there. It is unique. Also, I call everyone "Hun".

hugs

Trainsmom

Trainsmom -
here is a link for Phillips that might show you where you can get their food.

http://www.phillipsfoods.com/

I hope this helps with the NEED for crab.

I want to say Hi to the new members who have or do live in Maryland. I am Elaine and currently live in Carroll County. I was just down to the city on Sunday for the ballgame.

Also, Thanks to Sharon for providing the link for phillips! I just forwarded it on to my son in Florida. He does a good bit of cooking and may find it interesting.

There is another site that I have to tell you about.

www.crabplace.com

They ship fresh, still nipping, crabs. I plan on ordering a bushel for my son's b-day at the end of July. My sister in law, who still lives in MD, told me about them. It looks like they have everything from oysters to soft shells to anything else. I'm salivating at 8 in the morning!

Hi Trainsmom..
Glad you enjoy FC. Everyone loves Train!

Speaking of bluecrabs...can you guys belive....and you HAVE to promise NOT to laugh

I grew up in Houston close to Galveston and in all of my 32 years my husband is THE ONLY person I know who catches crabs... with a fishing pole! I mean.. those around us set crab pots, lines, even we did..but no one caught much except my husband who was pulling them out left and right with a rod and reel. They aren't hooked. These crabs just hold on to that chicken gizzard for dear life!

Cathy - that's not funny - that's how we taught our son!

Crabs are good no matter how you catch 'em!

It's so much fun having all this chat about crabs...

There is a very small seafood shop not too far from where I live. Yesterday when I came home from work I could smell those crabs steaming away down there. This holiday weekend would be a great time to enjoy some steamed crabs....

Sharon...thanks for the other link to that crab shop. That looks very interesting! I've got to check that out more!!

morelia...love the way your husband snags those crabs... We used to crab a lot and we would go out in this little tiny boat on the Magothy River. We put out pots but also used hand lines. I was pretty successful at snagging them on those hand lines...they would do they same thing as they do on the fishing line...just hold on to that chicken neck!

Happy Day!

Elaine
