Hey there Jackie! Good to meet ya. Welcome to the boards. I know where Globe is. I use to have friends that lived up in the white mountains and we went through Globe to get there. (I think I remember that right).

Hi Kim. Yes, you do go through Globe to get to the White Mountains. If you aver get this direction again come and visit.

Thanks for the invite Jackie. Unfortunately I don't get to visit out there as often as I would like. I have been trying for the last 6 months to arrange a visit to see my family in Tucson, but my schedule just won't allow it!

Hi, Arizonans! Nope, I don't live in AZ, but DH & I are talking about moving to the Southwest, and it's kind of a tossup between AZ & NM. His doc wants him to move somewhere drier than WA. Heck, just about anywhere is drier than WA! LOL

Jackie, when I told DH you were in Globe, he remembered visiting there back in the 70s. We looked the Globe-Miami area up online, and it's actually pretty tempting. Great housing prices, stuff to do (maybe not for kids, but cool for boring old folks like us,) and pretty countryside, although certainly not like any I've lived in before. We might be driving down there later this fall to scope the area out (so it's nice to know which motel/motels to stop at .) We were fretting about missing our beloved highland games in that neck of the woods, but it looks as if AZ has a thriving Celtic community. Phoenix seems to have a lot of Scots-Irish stuff going on! Up here, the games are all in the summer, when the rain lets up a little, but down there they're scattered throughout the year, which is really nice. The DH is dismayed at the idea of life without Slurpees, to which he's horribly addicted, since the nearest 7-Eleven is like 60 miles away, but he could cope, I think. Ya'll have Circle Ks, after all, and they have Icees.

I'm sure there are other areas in the state we should look at, too. A friend who grew up down there really likes Flagstaff. We're trying to avoid a city, though, becuase we're both "medically retired" (which sounds better than "on disability,") so we want a small, laid-back place where a fixed income can s-t-r-e-t-c-h the farthest, but we don't have to be concerned about the job market, thank heavens! And it has to be near enough to a city that I can get the occasional culture fix! I wondered about Sedona, all New Agey and kind of space-cadet-y, which sorta suits me, but I think DH would think it was just artsy-fartsy.
