IDEAS on Floats

My daughter will be helping another lady to make a daisy float for the parade later this month. Since both of them are new to the daisy program, they need ideas on a theme to do a float and ideas to make a float.

Any ideas would be appreciated so please put your wonderful creative minds to work and see if you all can come up with some ideas that I can pass her way to help my daughter and gd out on this project PLEASE. will thank you now in advance.

Hi!

I have been a GS leader for 3 yrs now...starting with Daisies. I am also the co-leader of a Jr. troop. My troop has marched in our town's Homecoming parade each year. Before deciding on a float, you may wish to consult SAFETY WISE for the requirements/restrictions that GS puts on parade floats. Many, many safety restrictions and IMO, not worth the risk to the girls or yourself (if something happens). GS do not ride in floats in our area...and this is being stressed even more now that a 7 yr old girl fell from a float and died in the St. Louis area this past summer.

As an alternative to a traditional float, you may consider a wagon float. My troop secures a plank of plywood to a wagon and then we build a mini float on top of it. No riders...just a display only. Last year, the troop dressed like the Statue of Liberty and our float had a very realistic version of Lady Liberty complete with pedestal. My junior troop dressed as U.S. service personnel and using a large appliance box, built an army tank over a wagon and pulled it. Their Brownie sister troop, dressed like nurses and pulled an ambulance (again using the wagon float). They were all wonderful. Not a traditional float, but just as effective and definitely safer!

Good luck with yours.

ScoutMuggle thanks, I been with cuib scouts and I am not the one in charge of the float I am just a grandma trying to help them find ideas and let them worry with the rest, for it now time for the younger generation to get in volved. My daughter like I said before is the one that has her daughter involved in te daisy program and I just here to help when needed.

Cubs had that same policy, so I don't know if they are going to just make up the float or allow girls to ride in it.

thanks againTHANK YOU
