Hi everyone,

Tree...sounds like you have been having a blast! Our pack is interested in spending the night on the Yorktown too. It would be a very long trip for us. About an 8 hr. drive.

We did our bike safety in Oct. and we are workin on our God and Me program. Sounds like we are doing lots of things alike!

Last Friday was our lock-in where we work on Pinewood Derby cars. We ate pizza, played games and generally goofed off and stayed up all night.

Tonight we baked cookies in the church kitchen. That completed one of our cooking requirements.

Will be in the Christmas parade on Sat. One more den meeting and we will be taking a 2 week break. I am looking forward to the break but will be ready to start back in Jan.

bye for now!

Hey Cub Scout Leaders....where are you? I know you are busy. Our pack just hosted the District Pinewood Derby race. It was very fun. We just bought a new track this year. It is all computerized and very "high tech" too complicated for me so I stayed in the food booth and sold hot dogs!

We are getting ready for Blue&Gold in FEb. What is everyone doing for their B&G banquet? Would love to share some ideas!

Hello from Pack 975, Indian Nations Council, Twin Arrows District, Broken Arrow, OK!

My name is Amy and I just began my 3rd year in Cub Scouting. I was a Tiger & Wolf leader. My husband will be the Asst. Cubmaster this year, so for Bears, he will lead our den. I'm actively involved on our Pack Committee, so I'll still have plenty to keep me busy! Plus, I'm sure I'll be helping him along the way as well.

Our Wolf year we adopted a 2nd Wolf den who lost their leader, which gave me 11 boys! Talk about nuts, lol! They all had fun and we have 9 re-registering though. We lost 2 to sports.

It's great to see so many experienced leaders! I am a Gold Award Girl Scout, registered for 24yrs now. My husband is am Eagle Scout and as of October this year, we'll both have completed Woodbadge. I can't wait!

We have a large pack of 75+ boys and a full calendar planned!

What type of summer activities are you all doing to keep your boys involved? We had our Pushmobile race in May, a Family Camp in June and a lock-in at Incredible Pizza in July.

Cub Scouting has taught me so much! For those looking for resources, try www.scoutxing.com or www.insanescouter.com. Both are great!

Happy Scouting!

Hi to geekswife (love the name, it describes me too!) and welcome to Family Corner and the Scouting forum.

I have a DS who is 13 and well into Boy Scouting. We intend to have him work HARD this summer on his merit badges. DH helps with the troop.

DH is the former Cubmaster for our Cub Pack. Yesterday in church we ran into another Cub leader whose oldest is about to cross over next spring. He also has a first grader and a 3-year-old boy, the same age as our youngest boy. So he and DH are planning ahead to be Tiger leaders together

Hi geekswife. I'm Kelly. I am starting my 3rd year as a Cub Scout Leader also. I will be the Weebelos I leader this year. I just talked to my Cubmaster tonight to put the finishing touches on our plans for Weebleos camp in July. We plan monthly pack activities in the summer. For June, Family Camp. For July we are going on a hike at a nature center and a cookout. Raingutter Regatta was in May.

We are pack 3013, Ocoee District of the Cherokee Area Council, Ocoee,TN. We have about 60 boys in our pack.

So good to hear from a fellow scouter. Thanks for the links, can't wait to check them out. Looking forward to chatting with you and sharing ideas.

Hello everyone!
We too have a fun summer planned! I am now Wolf Den leader for pack 490, Western Colorado Council
Last month we planted trees for our charting organization.
This weekend we are having an interpack pinewood derby. We are working with the other packs in our community to promote cubscouting this summer so this kicks off our summer drive. Everyone is encouraged to bring a friend, we will race, and then have a huge picnic/barbecue.
Our pack owns a dunk tank and for the 4th of July, we ride our bikes in the parade and then we work the dunk tank at our community summer festival to earn $ for our pack. It is always a lot of fun!
In July we also have day camp.
In August we have a day of reflection for all Christian scouts at the reservoir here, and I know there's another event planned, but as I'm not in charge, I can't remember it.
Our pack has never done family camp so a few of us are trying to organize a family camp for late July or early August.
Then, in September, we will have a rocket launch for our roundup event and turn to regularly scheduled meetings.

Good morning all you scouters!

We had registration night a couple of weeks ago and it looks like I have 5 new WEBELOS to add to my group. I will be starting out with 10 boys. Unfortunantly, I usually loose a few.

We had some great school rallies and it looks like our pack is going to grow quite a bit this year. Can't wait to see the final numbers.

We started out the year with a bang. Last Sat. we had a huge campfire at one of our leaders homes. We roasted hot dogs and made s'mores. We did some skits and songs and welcomed all the new families into our pack. We have a fishing derby coming up in Sept. and then Cub 'n Partner camping in Oct. We are also getting geared up for popcorn . What is going on in your pack?

I have not heard anything from my sons leader yet. I will probably call her this weekend. This is a first for me so I am interested in what all they will do. My DH will probably be the one that does things with him. He went to camp this summer. It was just a day camp but had a blast. Gotta go. Talk with you later.

Hi Kay,

Hope you enjoy scouting. If you don't hear from your son's leader, be sure to call her. In the chaos of fall recruiting, sometimes leaders don't have all the information yet. She may not know how to get in touch with you. I always tell my new families, " Don't hesitate to call me if I don't call you!"

You said this is a first for you. Is your son a tiger cub this year? My son is a WEBELOS this year. We have been in scouting for 3 years now. We love it!

Went to our district fishing derby today. The boys had a ball, and me well, I spent most of the day untangling fishing lines! But, I don't mind really except that we didn't even catch a fish! Guess there were just too many hooks for the fish to choose from because we had a huge turnout.

Help!

I have just been hoodwinked into being a Cubmaster for my sons pack. The Cubmaster we had quit when he thought he had a Wolf dad to take his place. That dad and his son are leaving scouts. The original Cubmaster will not come back. I had signed up to be the Assistant Cubmaster so the duty now falls to me! (is it too late to revoke my application? )
I have never spoken in front of a group before let alone a bunch of boys. I am very shy and I'm terrified! Does anybody have a sample agenda of how to run a pack meeting? Even somthing general would help. I want to keep it VERY short. I know I'll have to go over a list of things we are planning for the year. And I'll probably thank the new leaders and the old for volunteering publically. But I don't even know how to OPEN a meeting. Our first pack meeting will be Oct 13th, and the leader training won't be until after that. We were planning on having a search & rescue dog come to our meeting but it might not happen. We're guessing the dogs will be on the Gulf Coast working. If that happens, I'll have to fill the meeting with SOMETHING.

Another question I have is only slightly related:
My son is a Weblos I and I am switching him to the tan shirt. I removed his patches from the blue shirt so I could save them and put the shirt into our uniform bank. I had originally ironed on and then sewn the patches. I took out the stitches and used an iron on the back side of the shirt to soften the glue so I could pull off the patches (it worked for the important ones). The problem is the glue is still on the shirt. How do I get it off so the next boy can use the shirt? The glue is from the arrow points so it can't be left there for the new boy to cover as he might not get the same number and it will look terrible until he gets his own arrows.
