Thanks for the welcome barbszy. Congrats to you and your son for his accomplishment of completing Cub Scouts and crossing over to Boy Scouts. Like you, I hope my son will become an Eagle Scout.

Thanks! I don't know that there is a place for training here. The nearest Scout store is over an hour away. We can't even purchase uniform pieces locally, let alone books. We placed an order with the Treasurer of the pack and she drove to the nearest council store.
When the pack leader asked me to be the leader, as he knew I had scouting experience and teaching experience, he said to just read through this year's schedule of events and themes, and come up with whatever works for our den. I asked him about the order of things - When I was in Girl Scouts, we began with the pledge of allegiance, the GS pledge, and then followed a specific order of events. I see that this is sort of the same . . . Although, he told me each Den leader has their own preferences. I always thought it was much more organized than our Pack seems to be.
Well, my ds actually put on his uniform today to telephone his grandparents and ask them to order popcorn. He insisted that it says he has to be in uniform to take orders, so he had to put it on Gotta love that boy!
I'll ask our Pack leader specifically about training. He told me I had to go to something called roundtable this Tuesday. What is that?

Your situation sounds similar to mine. Our nearest Scout store is also a 1 hour drive. We live in a very rural area. Some of our leaders work very near the Scout store and are usually willing to take orders for what everyone needs a couple of times a month.

Our council offers training sessions for leaders throughout the year. They have them in different locations like churches in different districts so it is not so far for everyone.

The Program Helps book I spoke of is a guideline for den meetings and pack meetings. It offers a theme for each month and a schedule of activities for each den meeting. Your Cubmaster was right when he said each den leader has their own preferences. You don't have to use the Program Helps but it certainly makes it much easier for new leaders if they have it available for reference and ideas.

Roundtable is a monthly meeting for leaders in the same district. They tell you about different things that are coming up so you can pass the information along to your den and pack.

I love it that your son put on his uniform to call and sell popcorn! Our pack has been having show and sell popcorn sales for the past 3 weekends. Today we set up a table at a local grocery store and sold tons of popcorn.

I hope I have helped some. There are some great sites on the web for scout leaders. I'm new to this group and I am not sure if I can mention them here. Can I?

Hi Tree!

I will be the leader for the Weebelos I group next year

This year I have 7 Bears. We are Pack 3013. I am planning to do the bicycle requirements on Tuesday too. I have been watching the weather and it may rain us out. If so I will go to plan B and reschedule our bike stuff.

Sounds like you have a great Pack!

tree3branches it good to see you again, it been a while since I've seen you.

Tigers goes by the Tiger book of the BIG IDEA"S... unless it changed, as it been a while since I've done tigers...

and you are the Den leader and you organized it the way you want it...

Roundtable comes in very helpful as you learn things and ideas
that you can take back to teach and do with your boys along learning what is going on in the district.

as your pack belong to a district which is in a council... Each pack has thier own ways of doing things.

Hopefully you are going to your Leader meetings within your pack too...

When Pow wow comes around please go to it, you have alot of fun and get ideas that will help you so much.... Pow Wow comes once a year..

i've been on district level as well as serving in the pack..

I loved it when I was involved with it.

enjoy and you will learn as you go...

I hate fund raising. I feel like all I am doing is saying,
Any one want to buy

I hate this time of the season.. It just cost to much. They took our best seller away the popping tin. (that the one with just the popcorn in it. They said it too heavy for frieght and such.. I say for get the tin and put it in a girlscout size cookie box and it go like hot cakes for $3.00... )

This year thier offering you print out cards hand them out to your customers so they can order year round.. They say your pack still get the money earn. But in fine tiny writeing the shipping comes out of the packs part... Now you do the math. Trail end and the council make the money and the pack or troop get the shaft. Our pack not falling for that.. Were selling popcorn because we have to. But not pushing it hard if we need money we come up with some other fun raiser that more reasonble to the income of our area.

I get off my box I just had to voice my opion.

Hello every one
Sorry if you missed under stood my post I was not tring to sale you all any thing just posting my objections to saling it. How the pack don't really make that much on it. Plus if you read my post I tell of a card system of selling it.. It don't put money in the pack ot troop, Shipping and handling comes out of the pack ot troop part.. We all know how much it cost to send packages so you know what happens to the packs money from the sale.

Once again I'm sorry if you missed understood I didn't know I up set some one.

for sale was just the topic of my post not meaning to sale anything.. Can you imagine the cost of postage to send it. No way.

This be Tree Please forgive me

Hi Tree

How are your plans for the bike rodeo going? My bike safety course got rained out this week

Plan "B" turned out to be working on our wildlife achievement and working on our wildlife conservation belt loop. It went pretty good. We completed 1 requirement and 2 parts of earning our belt loop. After that we made ice cream cone clowns and ate them. That was one of our cooking requirements.

Had a low turn out this week. Only had 4 out of 7 boys. Hoping for a better turnout this week.

We will be practicing for our Cubmobile Race at the next den meeting. Our district race is coming up at the end of this month.
Our pack has won the district trophy 2 years in a row. We are hoping to make it 3. The boys just love racing its the dads that get all into the winning.

Let us know how the rodeo goes.

Hi everyone, I am a leader of our Wolf pack. I had 4 last year including my son, in Tigers, and now I HAVE 11! Ugh! It is great that we had a splurge in enrollment, but it is SO much work to keep them occupied. My DH started as the leader, but due to his work schedule, I have taken it over. I asked our Cubmaster to keep an eye out for a differnt person to be the leader. There is NOONE. I have 2 younger girls that I have to bring to the meetings. Although the boys love it, and I enjoy it...IT is very very difficult for me to do this job. I am currently looking for plays...short ones...for Thanksgiving. Any ideas?
Thanks!
