How do you save?

Dh and I have started an emergency fund (way past due) in Jan. We have both put away $100 each into this fund every month. It is always great to have some money put away in case of an emergency.

I have also put money away every month into an RRSP (IRA is the US) How do you put money away for your future? What has worked for you?

Dh has a 401K that he puts $$ into every pay period and his company matches part of it. I have profit sharing where I work. We also have a small savings account. I am ashamed to admit that we aren't the best at saving money and we really need an emergency fund.

I work for the state and contribute a madatory 6% to my retirement account (no matching funds) and I also have a 401k and deferred compensation account through my employer and have contributions directly taken from my check so I never see it/miss it. So I am doing pretty well planning for my future. I also have an IRA account. I also have a set amount automatically tranfered from checking to savings each payday.
I have an education IRA for my kids college education and those payments are automatically drafted from my checking account.
I feel good in knowing that I have a plan in place, but I do have to work on an emergency fund! Once I pay off my remaining debt, this will be my next goal.
