ISO "Yop" like yoghurt drink

You know.....
"Gimmee Yop me moma,
When the morning comes..."
My kids always want me to buy Yop (yoghurt drink), and the darn stuff costs nearly 70 cents per small container. Anyone have a Yop like recipe out there??
Thanks!
Jo-Anne

Here is one from Recipe Zaar

Yogurt Juice - Drinkable Yogurt

My kiddos love those drinkable yogurts. Why pay for those expensive little bottles?

1 can frozen concentrate juice or shelf stable concentrate juice (your choice of flavors)

2 cups plain plain yogurt

30-36 ounces water (your taste)

8 servings

  1. Put all ingredients in blender and process to mix.
  2. Pour into a container w/ a tight fitting lid.
  3. Refrigerate.
  4. Shake before pouring (has a tendency to settle and separate).
  5. *checkout the recipes for homemade yogurt on this site*.
  6. If serving to an infant I add 1/2 yogurt juice to 1/2 water.

I have looked around a bit and the best tip that I keep seeing over and over again is to take a cup of yogurt and dilute it to drinking consistency with skim milk. Some say that they add a little sweetner to the drinks because thinning it will take away the sweet taste--but that would depend on your taste and if you use a fully sweetend yogurt or a sugar free yogurt.

My DD loves yogurt. I think that this is a great idea!

And I am definately going to check out homemade yoghurt recipes, because yoghurt is becoming quite expensive these days as well.

Joanne

We make yogurt smoothies every week. I buy ( have made but don't have time homemade yogurt) 1 tub of vanilla yogurt (store brand) put in the blender with a large can of fruit, mostly we use peaches. Puree and you have yogurt smoothies. If it isn't sweet enough add a little sugar. I have also done with this frozen fruit and yogurt. You can also be a little creative and use pudding mixes and skim milk for chocolate smoothies, etc.

For containers I bought a new product from Ball, 5 ct. 8 oz. freezer cups with twist lids for $2.99 at Meijers I'm sure Walmarts has them too. Can be used over and over again and since they have twist lids they don't spill.

My 2 yr old likes drinkable yogurt, thanks for the tip of adding milk to it!

I do make Smoothies every now and again, I bought a giant bag of frozen fruit from Costco. Still a bit pricey but nearly as those individual containers! One of my Daycare children gets 1 a day and accrording to parents sometimes twice .
