I know this reply is late, but another thing to consider, besides Mother Nature, are the rules of the community you live in. What I mean is if you are paying rent on a space in a mobile home park, you need to find out the rules first. Just because you own your mobile doesn't mean you are allowed to have pets in it! Seems silly, but that's how it is.

“The value of doing something does not lie in the ease or difficulty, the probability or improbability of its achievement, but in the vision, the plan, the determination and the perseverance, the effort and the struggle which go into the project. Life is enriched by aspiration and effort, rather than by acquisition and accumulation.”

Florida is noted for its senior citizen mobile home parks. It is a cheap way to vacation in Florida with activities for just lot rent.
Some have appreciated in value if they are close to the ocean or near theme parks. If you do vacate during a storm you know you are covered with your house insurance if damaged. If you don't own the land you can take the money and buy something else or fix it and stay. Most of the older ones have metal roofs & siding with no outside maintenance accept yearly pressure washing.

I have seen regular homes where their shingles were stripped away during storms & screen rooms torn away around pools. There is always risks being near oceans for any homes. Insurance companies give big discounts if you get a new roof and install it according to new hurricane codes. It pays for itself in a few years and is safer.

It's one thing to have concerns over severe weather fronts and conditions, but when push comes to shove, purchasing, even if that equates to a trailer, is better than renting, because your money is ultimately ending up back in your own pocket and in the end you have something that you can call your own.

Another consideration is resale. DW and moblie homes, there are some laws in banking about getting loans after they are 20 years old. Not a good investment at all.
